Bakken & Bæck is a design and development studio working out of Oslo, Amsterdam, Bonn, London and Barcelona. Building digital products, brands and businesses, we help ambitious companies identify, explore and respond to new opportunities.
We define, design and develop all things digital.
From defining the future home with IKEA to building decentralised platforms with Coinbase, we are in the business of breaking new grounds. As one international team across offices, we have all the skill sets needed to help businesses adapt to an increasingly complex world.
We’re committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels comfortable, regardless of your identity, experiences and beliefs. We want BB to be a place where you can try out new things with the risk of failing, where you can take ownership over your own work without being micromanaged, and where there’s a low barrier for coming up with ideas - no matter your job title or discipline.
Work-life balance shouldn’t be a perk, but a given. We strongly believe in flexibility, knowing that creativity doesn’t always happen between 9 and 5. At BB you’ll be given a lot of freedom, which means managing your own priorities, trying out new things and working a flexible hours’ scheme.
Blending the promise of technology innovation with the power of human imagination.
We are currently looking for a Visual Content Creator to join our team, ideally in our Barcelona or Oslo office.
Team and responsibilities
In this position, you will work primarily with BB’s Head of Communications, standing slightly apart from the company’s other disciplines (product design, technology, brand+comms, business development) in order to join the dots and translate their client-focused work for an external audience, as well as conveying our culture, values and guiding principles. You will work with other designers, copywriters, developers, strategists and product managers across the organisation to ensure you have a well-developed sense of the work you’re communicating, but you must also be able to work independently.
As a company, we aim to explore and implement new modes of interaction that evoke meaningful and inclusive connections between human beings and their technological surroundings. To communicate these goals, you’ll need to be comfortable combining strategy with visual storytelling to convey our work and identity in the right tone of voice on all relevant platforms. At times this may require a more editorialised approach, and at other times the speedy delivery of assets.
In order to succeed at this job, you’ll need creativity, a good aesthetic sense and attention to detail. It’s your role to ensure a high standard of work is always delivered, while fitting the brief. As we’re a small team, we’re looking for someone who feels comfortable discussing work openly and frequently, and who can understand the task at hand and iterate quickly.
The role
As Visual Content Creator, you will play a role in roughly three phases of BB’s communications work:
-
Retrospective communication: Define interesting and relevant ways to turn the brands and products we’ve developed for our partners into visual narratives that can be used on our own platforms. The goal is to build our portfolio of finished projects while also exploring different facets of our work process, e.g. through social media and the BB website (including case studies and our upcoming journal page).
-
Embedded communication: Shape digital and offline experiences embedded in internal projects. These will primarily be developed with the Head of Communications and/or Head of Contextual Research, with more end-to-end involvement in the project, e.g. conducting visual research, testing visual directions, creating and curating visual content, commissioning external work, designing small print editions or merch.
-
Prospective/speculative communication: Create visual moods to engage BB’s external audience (both tech- and design-focused, plus future clients and a more generalist audience), while sparking conversation in relation to our broader interests and ambitions. These could include high-level focus areas like sustainable innovation or new ways to visualise complex systems and technologies.
Qualifications
-
Ability to work closely together with writers, designers and engineers on creative concepts and visual narratives, while balancing and combining these different perspectives
-
Appreciation of how to take an editorial approach to communications, creating visual assets in support of a larger message and adapting this material to different platforms and use cases
-
Keen interest in digital projects, interactive design, branding and concept-led design, but also an awareness of/interest in all our disciplines and the relevant visual approaches for each
-
1-2 years’ experience of working in an agency, with the ability to iterate quickly and deliver work to a deadline, plus a fundamental understanding of project management, budget and timing
-
Fluent in After Effects, Figma, Adobe CC software
-
Experience with 3D, coding, generative design, audio production, AR and VR is a plus.
-
Ability to work with design systems across multiple mediums (digital, 2D, 3D, motion)
What you can look forward to
-
Doing things together: When not in the midst of a global pandemic we like to get together as often as we can across offices. Yearly trips, meetups, parties and dinners, or working on interesting projects together.
-
Remote when you need: We try our best to keep location from obstructing our cross office collaboration. As long as you have the possibility to come in to the office a few times a week (for workshops, social gatherings, etc.), you're welcome to design a hybrid setup that works for you.
-
Parental leave and baby bonus: We got the moms and dads in the company to design our very own “baby kit”, that includes a €2000 bonus, so you can get a head start on your new parental adventures.
-
Keep it healthy: We provide an extensive support package that includes a solid health insurance, sponsored therapy sessions, access to physiological treatment and a lot more.
-
Learning budget: You'll get an annual allowance of €500 to use on courses, classes, or conferences - whatever you need to stay inspired and learn new things.
