About
Ron Kahlon is an emerging independent director and writer based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. As an immigrant Indian-Australian, he is inspired by stories heralding from other immigrants and cultural diasporas – particularly those from South-Asian voices.
Ron was born in a small village in India. His childhood was spent growing up in various places around India because his father was an Indian army officer. The exposure to diverse communities and cultures and the stories that came with it, including his own experiences, inculcated a passion for creative storytelling.
Through his work, he endeavours to create a unique environment for cross-cultural learning. Ron believes if we experience intercultural contact with our eyes and ears, we begin to understand it. Ron’s narrative style develops empathy with the protagonist from whose point of view the story is told, therefore helping the audience to see the world from another’s point of view and to put themselves in the shoes of people with whom they have little or no personal contact, such as refugees or ethnic minorities in their own country or abroad.
Ron wants to promote awareness, curiosity, interest in other cultures and respect for diversity through his craft.
Ron is currently undergoing a Placement on a feature film 'My Melbourne', which is supported by Screen Victoria.
