Projects
Currently in core design team for Rufus, a new generative AI-powered conversational shopping experience on the Amazon app. Leading design workstreams for the default search experience, broad research questions, and personalization.
Designed and launched a new search experience on Echo Show Devices for a customer that knows, with some degree of certainty, what item they’re looking for. Alexa has high confidence that the product she recommends will suit the customer’s needs, and surfaces purchase buttons in the initial offer presentation. (2021-2023)
Lead multimodal designer for holiday experience where customers thanked their drivers for their deliveries resulting in 1 million paid “thank you’s” reaching the campaign goal in under 36 hours. We received overwhelming positive response by customers and drivers in social media (posts shared hundreds to thousands of times across TikTok, Twitter, FB, Insta and Reddit)
Side Projects
Launched an Etsy shop of my passion project: creating stickers that serve as conversation starters for less awkward faith talks.
Education
Interdisciplinary education in design, user research, programming, and business administration.
Features
Rufus is an expert shopping assistant trained on Amazon’s product catalog and information from across the web to answer customer questions on shopping needs, products, and comparisons, make recommendations based on this context, and facilitate product discovery in the same Amazon shopping experience customers use regularly.
We interviewed Barun Kwak, UX Designer at Amazon, about her background in design. She began her journey with Amazon as a UX design intern and returned after graduating to the same team, where she has stayed ever since. As a designer, she has worked on several projects, including Alexa, Thank My Driver; which she talks about below!
'Alexa, thank my driver': Here’s the simple way Amazon customers can show delivery drivers appreciation this holiday season
5min Alexa demo podcast featured an accessibility feature I designed called Notify when Nearby. Alexa replays notifications when the customer’s presence is detected near their Echo device.
Another podcast feature that highlights the benefits of this accessibility feature for anyone who doesn't want to miss their important notifications.
Awards
This design challenge aimed to bring awareness to microaggressions in language. Participants were encouraged to examine unconscious bias through an artistic lens.
My design was printed on posters, and t-shirts were distributed across Amazon offices.
