About
Hey, I'm Nellie and I currently serve as a design manager at EY Design Studio, working closely with teammates across disciplines and time zones to create digital experiences that make work easier for clients and their customers.
Throughout my design career, I've had opportunities to flex my creative and analytical muscles across many industries and in many roles. I am at my best when I'm collaborating closely with teammates from different disciplines (hey, UX researchers and devs 👋🏼) to creatively solve problems. I am interested in ethical design practices and digital experiences grounded in respect for the humans that use them.
The culture and community of my local design team and the client teams I join is very important to me and I actively find ways to celebrate the work my teammates do and find moments to connect on a human level. I have had the immense privilege of working with some of the most talented and caring mentors and as I move forward in my career, my goal is to pay that forward ✨
Interested in good food, lovely design, fiber crafts, my cat and other people's dogs.

Work Experience
-
As a UI designer, I was responsible for enhancements to the customer buy flow for xfinity.com
-
As designs evolved for the cart and review experiences, I participated in agile ceremonies like grooming and ad hoc review sessions with the dev team.
-
While maintaining Sketch and Invision prototypes for internal and cross-team collaboration, I also experimented with and evaluated emerging tools to help build a design system to drive consistency across the various parts of the buy flow experience.
-
As an intern and later, design team member, I worked across a diverse client roster to provide graphic design and UI/UX services as well as ship front-end code for custom Wordpress themes.
-
As a client-serving team member, I often acted as project manager for my engagements- leading project planning, providing on-call support and maintaining the client relationships.
-
I collaborated with the CEO on a variety of internal projects including custom branding for in-house software, redesigning The Kyle David Group branding and website, and creating a Year in Review publication that won a GD USA InHouse Design Award in 2014.
-
I also became the team’s first “social chair”, planning social events during and after work hours to build the company’s culture.
Volunteering
Volunteered as a workshop facilitator, website blog poster, and later developed the curriculum and assets for a new workshop focused on the UI/UX designer's role in tech: Think Like a Designer.
Writing
Speaking
Led a rotating group of participants through a fun sketchercise to practice designing for a wide cast of characters. This was a part of a larger Design Brew event that brought design professionals from throughout the city into EY Design Studio's common space for a night of hands-on design thinking exercises.
Presented career journey and hosted Q&A with students in their senior seminar classes on three occasions: twice with colleagues and fellow alum from The Kyle David Group and once solo.
Led the curriculum creation and facilitation of TechGirlz's first UI/UX designer workshop for middle schoolers. Participants learned about how digital experiences are made from the research phase straight through to development.
