Hey, I'm Rafael, a designer with 6+ years of experience based in Lisbon, Portugal.
I'm a hands-on designer who enjoys traditional design and digital design as much as I enjoy writing code to create the best experience possible.

Work Experience
I led early research, product design, small branding initiatives, and took an active role in frontend development and product management.
Avenue is a cutting-edge platform for modern organizations where individuals in the gig economy can seamlessly collaborate and make valuable contributions to multiple organizations.
At Finiam, a fintech-focused company, I worked with prominent companies such as Utrust (now xMoney), Coverflex, CTT and Protocol Labs where I helped founders build their products and digital presence.
I was the first Product Designer on the team, with an exciting mission to explore and shape the interaction of innovative data and low-code paradigms. I took an active role in the initial research and helped define the product and design the prototypes.
I helped build Pixie by leading product design and taking an active role in research, front-end development, and product management, which greatly influenced the overall development and growth of the project.
Pixie is a today's leading solution in the bookkeeping and accounting market for its user-friendly design and ease of use.
I worked closely with the ably.com team, where I had a frontend developer role.
End-to-end design and implementation, including backend development, websites and digital experiences for Portuguese cultural entities (e.g. EGEAC).
Side Projects
A collaboration with Miguel Cruz on several professional, non-professional and non-profit projects, including the Criatek festival (with Paul Hardman), creating graphics for several music albums and much more.
Speaking
I gave a talk on why a static brand identity is no longer enough today and explored key historical events such as the industrial revolution that transformed our perspective on contemporary brands.
Exhibitions
Showcased my work, alongside Barbara Says..., in a remarkable exhibition, demonstrating a harmonious fusion of artistic visions.

This course covered various techniques and tools that have been used for centuries in the field of printing and graphic design, such as printing press, letterpress printing and movable type,
Awards
Volunteering
During my volunteer experience with stray cats, I had the opportunity to have a positive impact in the lives of these vulnerable animals. Every day, I visited the local animal shelter to help feed, care for, and play with the stray cats.
A project founded and led by Architecture and Design students from the Center for Architectural Studies at the University of Coimbra that aimed to rehabilitate downtown Coimbra through the reconstruction of abandoned spaces and multiple initiatives such as cultural events.
