Design systems have become one of the most important tools we use in our daily work processes. As a result, many companies and projects now have their own design systems. But who creates these design systems? Large companies have specialists for this, such as Design System Engineers and Designers. In Azerbaijan, simple UX/UI and Product Designers handle this work. I am one of them. In this series of articles, I will share the challenges I have faced, interesting situations, and the new things I have learned. The introduction was a bit lengthy, but I think we can start now.
Atoms, Molecules and Organisms
Before talking about the elements of the design system (colors, typography, components, etc.), let me talk about how to build a design system that is usable and will speed up the work at the maximum level. If you have just started to develop a design system, you may also have a question: Atoms, Molecules and Organisms? What does this have to do with the design system? If you asked this question, you are on the right track, we can begin.
Now let's talk about Atoms, Molecules, and Organisms separately
First, Atoms
Atoms are the smallest components in a design system. For example: buttons, inputs, styles (font, color, etc.), radio buttons, checkboxes, etc. You can think of atoms as Lego blocks, the smallest options that can be broken down.
Molecules
In short, elements consisting of atoms are called Molecules. For example: A set of inputs and buttons in the Login form. Assuming that atoms are Lego blocks, we can think of molecules as the parts that are made of them.
Organisms
An element consisting of molecules is called an organism. For example: headers, pop-ups, etc. Many of the organisms we use in the interface can function independently of some element.
Additionally,
Templates
We can call templates, and design parts consisting of organisms, they mainly show what and where will be located on the site.
That's it for today's design systems, in the next blog I will talk about redesigning systems (base component). Happy Wednesday, enjoy the holiday, relax, and read. ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
