Product design is hard, but what's even more challenging is aligning everyone involved with a common understanding of what the product is and how to move towards that shared vision. In my experience, this has always been a challenge regardless of the team or project.
Despite being a regular occurrence, every team attempts to find a unique approach, process, system, or set of tools to help them navigate this. However, this often leads to the introduction of more components that only serve to complicate rather than simplify the process. It seems as though everyone is striving to streamline and clarify, yet we're sometimes inadvertently making the process more complicated than it needs to be. I’m guilty of this.
In today’s world, it feels like sitting at a desk all day to work through these challenges to get these things done is the standard we've set for ourselves. There’s now so much work that needs to happen before the real work can even happen, and for me, it’s created this feeling that if I'm not sitting at my desk behind a screen for all of it, then I'm not actually getting things done. In reality, however, when I create the space to think without any distractions, like by standing up and going on a walk around the block, then somehow the mental clutter starts to disappear and the creativity starts to flow again.
I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m starting to go on more walks, and it’s helping.🚶♂️😊
