Dinner is Served

My piece, Dinner is Served is a visceral exploration of greed and excess, presented as a decadent yet decaying feast. The opulent table, set for one, juxtaposes beauty with rot, inviting viewers to reflect on the isolation born from selfish indulgence. Through this work, I delve into the sumptuous allure of desire and its inevitable decay, creating a haunting commentary on the consequences of excess.

Each item of food has been handmade and crafted by me over the span of eight months, from a range of material including clay, resin, and plaster.

Sonder

The essence of this short film, “Sonder,” lies in its exploration of the complexities of human experience within the mundane yet communal backdrop of a laundromat. At its core, the narrative delves into themes of isolation, connection, and the universal search for meaning in everyday life. The decision to set the story in a laundromat serves as a vehicle for the characters' shared experiences of vulnerability and exposure amidst the routine of laundry. Here, the characters confront their struggles and desires, offering glimpses into the depths of the human psyche and soul.

The 3:4 aspect ratio in this video drama enhances its intimate, timeless feel, drawing viewers closer to the characters and their emotions within the confined space of the laundromat. This format creates a sense of immediacy and nostalgia, aligning with the film's exploration of universal themes like isolation and connection. Narration provides a reflective thread, deepening the audience's engagement with the characters' inner worlds, while flashbacks reveal key moments from their pasts, adding layers to their present lives. Together, these techniques create a poignant, introspective narrative that invites viewers to connect deeply with the characters' journeys.

Through the lens of diverse characters, each grappling with their own personal struggles and aspirations, the film explores the fragility of human relationships and the transformative power of empathy and understanding. From the teenage girl seeking solace in therapy to the middle-aged father struggling with estrangement from his daughter, each character represents a facet of the human condition, offering poignant insights into the complexities of existence.

Ultimately, this short film seeks to transcend the confines of typical storytelling, inviting viewers on a thought-provoking journey of self-discovery and introspection through small intertwined stories. By immersing audiences in the raw emotions and universal struggles of its characters, the narrative serves as a poignant reminder of the humanity that binds us all together. Through its evocative imagery and heartfelt performances, this video drama aims to provoke reflection, inspire empathy, and ignite a deeper understanding of the human experience, and to remind us of the fact that no matter what we go through, there’ll always be laundry to do.
