About

Designer & developer (in any order you’d like), here to make delightful things that matter.

Awards

2023

Together with four teammates (πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸŽ¨ Bram, πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ”¬ Leon, πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ¦° Rocket, πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸ’» Sander and myself) I spent 24 hours brainstorming, designing, and coding a fresh idea into existence.

The end result is Surfboard: a new platform that helps boost the institutional knowledge and culture of fast-growing companies by providing employees with decks of flash cards to train with.

I’ve also written a short retelling of every emotion we felt and every product decision we made over the course of those 24 hours on my blog.

Writing

2020

Carried out in the scope of the MA Digital Experience Design, my graduation thesis examines flow in digital tools, and aims to provide a new model to help digital designers create interfaces that cause (more) flow.

Features

2022

An interview about my way into design, my daily routine, and my proudest work to date. Very honoured to be featured among people I look up to.

2020
Gloeiο»Ώ

The book Gloei combines interviews with LGBTQ+ youth with amazing illustrations and visuals. After its publication I got to speak about it on TV (koffietijd.nl/videos/50774/f…) and later started a podcast to feature more stories.

Side Projects

Ongoing
Eurostoryο»Ώ

In 2015 I was approached by a group of authors to collaborate on a special project: a website uncovering the hidden stories of the Eurovision Song Contest.

2022
Shiplogο»Ώ

A tiny menu bar app to keep track of running deploys on Vercel and Netlify

2022

In the spirit of its namesake book, Gloei aims to highlight the diverse stories of LGBTQ+ people and what makes their lives glow. Showing, in particular, that gender and sexuality are merely one part of someone's life.

Work Experience

2021 β€” Now
Amsterdam

Bringing better food to more people by understanding our user, testing a lot, and iterating a ton.

2021 β€” 2021
Remote from Amsterdam

Bridging the gap between design and development with pixel-perfect specs and code samples. Bootstrapped the product design team, user research, and design system.

2017 β€” 2019
Eindhoven

Switching between design & dev regularly. Laravel, CraftCMS, and the early days Flutter. Specced my first API. This is where I developed my love for (CSS) animation.

2017 β€” 2018

Organised the career events of the TU Eindhoven: connecting 3700 students with 160 companies. An intense year working with fellow board members, study associations and client companies.

Education

An intense program combining various courses about team dynamics and project management with practical UX projects, working on real client briefs, facilitated by industry experts.

Creating intelligent products, systems and services in a societal context, with a personal focus on (digital) experience- and interaction design.

Exhibitions

2016
Eindhoven

Intermedia is an interactive light installation that lets strangers connect with each other through a screen β€” a reflection on how media shapes our modern-day interactions.

Volunteering

2016 β€” 2017
Eindhoven

Led a team of writers, photographers and graphic designers in creating the design publication of our study association. The focus was improving structure and communication between the teams.

2013 β€” 2016

Led a team of graphic designers in creating bimonthly editions of the biggest LGBTQ+ youth magazine in the Netherlands. When it moved online, I helped contributed to the website's theme and code.
