Role: Graphic Designer

Overview:

This story is about my journey at Head Innovation, a design company I found by chance and joined as my first serious design job. Before this, I liked designing for fun for about four years. But at Head Innovation, I turned my hobby into a career. The company was led by someone with lots of experience, and it became a place where I learned a lot. I found out what I really liked about design and started to develop my own style while dealing with team and project challenges.

Starting Out:

I joined Head Innovation by luck, after talking to an employee. This led to an interview and then getting the job. Back then, design was a hobby I was serious about making into a career. It was my first official job in this area. I was 19, the youngest in the team, eager to make a difference. Even though I was new, I wanted to learn and do well in this creative place.

Challenges:

Working at Head Innovation taught me a lot, but it was tough at times. Being the youngest, I had a lot to learn, not just about design but about working in a professional setting. My early confidence in my design skills had to adjust to the competitive reality of the field. I also had to get used to the founder's unique design style, like using gradients and custom fonts, pushing me to try new things. Dealing with clients and deadlines was always challenging, testing my skills and ability to keep going.

Lessons Learned:

My time at Head Innovation changed me, giving me insights that shaped how I approach design and my career. I learned how important it is to be open to learning. Realizing I had a lot to learn made me more open to feedback and eager to get better. Working closely with others taught me that good design comes from working together and considering different views. I also learned to balance fitting in with the company's style and finding my own, which is now central to my work.

Moving On:

Deciding to leave Head Innovation was hard. It was influenced by my own thoughts and wanting to try new things. This was the end of a big chapter in my career but also the start of something new. With what I learned there, I felt ready for the next step. This led to starting my own design company, where I could use everything I learned. This new start was challenging but gave me a chance to put my ideas into action and keep growing as a designer.

Conclusion:

My time at Head Innovation was more than just a job. It was a key time for learning and growing personally. The challenges and lessons have been important for my development as a designer and professional. Looking back, I'm thankful for both the good times and the hard ones, as they all helped me move forward. The company didn't just improve my design skills; it also taught me about working with a creative team and dealing with the fast pace of the industry.

Tools I use

We had set up a smooth system to manage clients and ran a design as a service. We used Cloudpanel to keep everything organized, Keycloak for easy logins, Easy Appointments for booking, Kanboard for tasks, Humhub for community, and Wordpress for our website.

They were all connected seamlessly. When a user books a meeting, they receive an email with all the details. Then, when they visit the site, they create an account that's automatically set up across Wordpress, Kanboard, Keycloak, Humhub, and everything else, all synced together.

Also, when the user logs into the project management system, they have a playground by default. One thing that could have been improved is integrating with Stripe; unfortunately, I didn't have the time to implement it for registering custom projects. Overall, this setup provided a smooth flow for managing everything.

With Tudor's help, we made sure everything works well together and looks good. Our aim was to have our own way of doing things that fits the business perfectly.

#### Finding My New Path

Recently, I found myself at a crossroads, navigating the shift from a designer to a programmer. It was a transition filled with mixed emotions and unexpected turns. Just as I decided to step away from the world of design, projects began to flow my way, and I couldn't resist taking them on—for old times' sake. In my last blog post, I talked about starting a new venture called Trebevo, which is slowly taking shape. Alongside this project, I've been keeping myself busy with other activities that complement my skills, particularly in design tools development. 

This led me to create an app called "Colors of the Day" At first glance, this app might seem simple, but there's a lot more to it than meets the eye. It introduces two new colors every day, challenging users to explore and use them creatively. These colors are based on six different types of color harmony, ensuring that each pair of colors works well together.

The idea for this app was inspired by my love for the Pantone Color of the Year, something I've always been a huge fan of. However, I wanted to add my own twist and introduce a challenge to make it more engaging. I chose a less-known hashtag on Instagram for users to post their work, encouraging them to compete and share their creativity with others. 

As someone who has worked as a designer full time, I often found myself stuck when it came to choosing color combinations. Now, with this app, you can pick any date from the past and turn it into a fun activity. Whether it's your birthday or a day that holds special meaning, each date offers a different set of colors to play with.

Working on this project has been incredibly fulfilling for me, and I'm excited to keep improving it. My coding skills were quite basic when I started, but I've learned so much through this process. I used every tool available to me, from open-source projects to AI coding assistants, to make my vision a reality. I hope others find this app useful and enjoyable. It's my aim to continue developing tools like this that can inspire and assist creative individuals.

E4 My first app

This month, I had to make a tough decision about my career. I was feeling really down about my design work, dealing with clients, and the fact that my last project, Blureo, didn't work out at all over the past year. I realized it was time to move on. I'm still a bit involved in smaller things, but I knew I needed to make a bigger change because I wasn't happy with where I was, and it was making me feel terrible inside.

After thinking a lot and talking with my business partner, Tudor, I decided to do something different. I still want to help him, but I needed time to think about what I wanted to do next. And I came up with an idea. My new project is called "Trebevo". It's going to start as a free resource for people who are struggling to start and run a tech business. It'll have information and interviews with people from the tech world. I got inspired by some other projects like Startup School by Y Combinator, Failory, Killed By Google, and Fireship. I was afraid to talk about it before because I never did with my previous work. But now, I want to change that and build in public this time.

Let's talk about Trebevo. The name comes from combining "Treble" and "Evolution" and I actually came up with it by accident almost a year ago in the process of rebranding Teckstar. I kept it on the shelf, thinking I might do something with it someday and here we are. I want this to be my main brand going forward because I really like it, and I've already registered it across all social media platforms, as well as securing the '.com' domain. It's the first brand where I don't need to add 'group' or something else to the handles and it's also good for search engines, which is important.

Trebevo serves as a spiritual successor to my first venture, Takameru, which isn't around anymore. I aspired to transform Takameru into more than just an agency, but unfortunately, I fell short. This time around, I'm determined to actualize that vision and make it happen.

Trebevo will focus on tech and be friendly to people starting businesses. I want to provide resources and build it up the way I should have with other projects. I think it's a great name with lots of potential and a great idea. I'm excited to hear feedback and see if people are interested in having a hub for resources related to tech and all my projects in the future.

One thing's for sure, Trebevo is my way of saying I'm #builttobuild, and I won't stop until I've turned my ideas into reality. I hope one day to have a portfolio of companies that help people and make life easier. Come along with me on this journey, and let's build something amazing together.

Design As A Service 2023 - 2024

Role: Co-Founder

Overview:

This story unfolds one year into my first venture. It's about the birth and evolution of Blureo, a project that emerged when three individuals—myself, Tudor, whom I met at an event, and Razvan, an old friend—decided to combine our talents and experiences. Much like Takameru, which focused on minimalist designs and storytelling, Blureo embarked on a similar path, aiming to create impactful designs accessible to everyone. This narrative delves into how our experiences shaped the journey of Blureo.

Starting out:

Blureo began when we combined our skills and dreams. While my agency had a strong brand and website, Tudor and Razvan wanted to take things in a new direction. We thought carefully about what to call our project and settled on Blureo because it sounded modern and cool. These early days were filled with excitement and hope as we started building something special together. We put a lot of thought into every decision, all sharing the belief that our project could be something amazing.

Challenges:

Starting Blureo wasn't easy, especially because our way of doing things was new for our country (daas). We faced lots of problems that made things tough. For one, we spent too much time at the beginning because we wanted everything to be perfect and after Razvan left we were only two. We thought it was a good idea to create a whole bunch of new apps, called The Blureo Suite, but looking back, maybe it wasn't. Later, we even rebranded them as Zunego Suite.

Adding to our struggles, we lacked direction and didn't have a clear plan. Our servers were expensive because we didn't know how to use cloud computing efficiently. We also faced technical challenges since we didn't know much about CSS and PHP, which we needed for our apps. We learned along the way, but we made mistakes that slowed us down. Another challenge was that we isolated ourselves, staying at home without interacting with others or sharing our progress publicly. This lack of connection made it harder to get feedback and support.

Lessons Learned:

Our journey with Blureo taught us some important lessons. One big lesson was that trying to make everything perfect from the start can backfire. We spent too much time and money trying to make our brand and apps perfect, but it didn't guarantee success. It's better to start small, learn as you go, and adapt along the way.

Another lesson was the importance of being proactive in sales and marketing. Waiting until everything was perfect before reaching out to clients meant we missed out on potential opportunities. We realized that it's better to start selling early, even if things aren't perfect, and improve as you go.

We also learned the value of networking and seeking feedback. Staying isolated and not sharing our progress publicly made it harder to get support and guidance. We discovered that reaching out to others, sharing our work, and asking for feedback can help us grow and improve faster.

Lastly, we learned the importance of staying resilient in the face of challenges. Despite setbacks and failures, we didn't give up on Blureo. We kept pushing forward, learning from our mistakes, and trying new approaches. This resilience ultimately helped us persevere and continue moving towards our goals.

Moving On:

After struggling with running Blureo for a while, I realized something important in early 2024: I wasn't happy doing design work anymore. So, I decided it was time for me to leave Blureo and find something else that made me happy.

When I told Tudor, my friend and partner in Blureo, he understood completely. We talked about it, and he agreed that it was the right thing for me to do.

Even though I was leaving Blureo, I wasn't worried about Tudor, who decided to stay in the industry. I trust him completely with all the design work I'd need for my future projects. I know he'd do a great job.

Leaving Blureo was bittersweet, but I was excited to see what the future held. It was the start of a new chapter for me, and I was ready for whatever came next.

Conclusion:

Leaving Blureo was tough, but it was the right choice for me. My time there was a blessing, and I learned a lot. I really liked working on the apps, and I don't regret any second. I'm thankful for the lessons learned and the memories made. Blureo may be in the past, but its impact will always be with me as I move forward. It's shaped me into who I am today, and I'm excited to see where the future takes me.

In my recent article, I talked about my new project, Trebevo. It's like a central hub for my tech projects and a place where other entrepreneurs can find helpful resources. It's a bit like Alphabet's website, but not just a manifesto, also a hub for founders.

Now, as I move forward with the project, I've put a lot of thought into creating a logo that really represents what Trebevo is about, for me and for the people who will use it. I was inspired by Lexend, a font that is created with everyone in mind, and also by Esperanto, which is a language made to be universal and unite people. I wanted the logo to show that Trebevo is for everyone.

The main part of the logo is a figure called Rei (zero in japanese). Rei represents the journey of starting a business and making it successful (from zero to hero). He's walking forward strongly, like the wind is blowing in his face. His hands are in the back, showing that he's ready to move forward and leave the past behind. This shows the spirit of people who are ready to start amazing things.

When choosing the font for the logo and Trebevo, I thought a lot about making sure it's easy to read and looks good to everyone. I picked Lexend because it's clear and works well for lots of different people. This shows that Trebevo is for everyone, no matter who they are.

Colors are really important for how things look, so I picked colors that show innovation and authority. I chose black (#000000) and red1 (#ff0000) because they're the default web colors, representing the state of my journey right now, but they show excitement and seriousness.

The motto, "Built to Build" sums up what Trebevo is all about. It's a call to action for entrepreneurs everywhere to use their skills to create new things and make the world better. It's about reminding people of their power to make a difference.

Collaborations with other agencies presented opportunities, but non-disclosure agreements meant I couldn't showcase much of this work in our portfolio. Financial instability was a recurring theme, with months where the agency generated no income, which was frightening. In an attempt to pivot, I explored various projects, like smart business cards named Meishi, and offered free services to NGOs to boost our visibility. Yet, challenges like the agency's name being hard to pronounce and my tendency to overthink the branding strategy were additional hurdles.
