Shopify, a leading e-commerce platform, made one of its first attempts to expand its presence in Asia through partnerships with major telecommunications companies in 2013. In that year, the company announced a partnership with SingTel, one of the largest telecommunications companies in Asia, to help Shopify merchants in the region grow their businesses. The partnership aimed to provide Shopify merchants with access to SingTel's network of more than 640 million mobile customers across Asia.
In addition to its partnership with SingTel, Shopify also teamed up with Ideoworks, a digital agency based in Indonesia, to help the company expand its presence in the Indonesian market. Indonesia is the largest e-commerce market in Southeast Asia, and Shopify saw it as a key growth market. Through its partnership with Ideoworks, Shopify was able to tap into the agency's expertise in the local market and reach a wider audience in Indonesia.
Overall, these partnerships were part of Shopify's broader strategy to expand its reach in the Asia-Pacific region and provide its merchants with the tools and support they need to succeed in the competitive e-commerce market.

Ideoworks provided local support features such as payment gateways, web plugins, product photography services, and workshops to promote the platform. They also offered digital marketing to help merchants grow their stores.
