I have a...hmm...how do I put this...*[history](https://comicsalliance.com/shawn-bowers-garfemon-garfield-as-pokemon/)* with Garfield-inspired art. So when it came time to design my first iOS sticker pack, it only made sense to start with some legally-barely-distinct-enough knockoffs as I learned the ropes.

The pack includes 37 original stickers (a few animated, mostly not) and it's still the most popular one I've released. I guess the lesson is to never underestimate the power of a cat blob with muscular legs saying "Have it your way."

Way back in 2008, I moved from Kansas City to Chicago specifically to "do comedy." After a few years making the rounds between Second City, iO, and the gaggle of now-defunct storefront theaters, I started to drift away from the scene and turn my attention to other things, like drawing, starting a family, etc.

A few months ago, after more than a decade, I got an itch again. But like...I wasn't going to go and put up a sketch show with a full cast of busy actors in an expensive theatre for an audience of five again (as fun as that was back in the day). 

Nope, I decided to just do it all myself...I wrote a bunch of sketches, set up a recording studio in my closet, and went to town voicing and producing a full-length sketch album that represents the best (worst? most current?) of what I have to offer.

Bleak Fruit

In 2014, myself and my good friend Alex Nichols were talking and realized it had been far too long since a new Austin Powers movie was made.  And because we're good, proactive people, we decided not to wait for Hollywood to get around to it, but rather to write it for ourselves.

Except, y'know, we're lazy...so instead of ACTUALLY writing it ourselves, we figured we could crowdsource it.  And thus the Secret Sequel Society was born.

The project was sort of an exquisite corpse exercise.  We solicited writers anonymously, and gave them a set of rules:

**1. You can only read the page before yours.\
2\. You only get to write a single page.\
3\. You have to nominate someone to write the next page.**

The result was a surprisingly coherent 60-page screenplay that deals with time travel, space exploration, horniness, the ebola crisis and so much more. Basketball superstar Jeremy Lin is a prominent supporting character.  The Rock plays a giant-sized clone of Dr. Evil. It's weird and great and some of the writers who worked on this thing went on to write for Colbert, Fallon, Marvel, all sorts of legit outlets.

The Secret Sequel Society

**The Challenge**

We were all trapped inside for like a year and a half trying to survive a global pandemic.

**The Solution**

Technically vaccines were the solution. But to solve the shorter term problem of absolute boredom while being stuck inside, I launched a small business venture called Phantom Letter.

Phantom Letter was a SaaS (spooking as a service) product that let you send a one-of-a-kind, handwritten letter to a friend or loved one...from the ghost who claimed to be living in their house.

Basically, if going to grab the mail was one of the few exciting things we got to do each day, maybe I could make the mail an adventure in and of itself.

I let the domain lapse, but this was the landing page I spun up quickly to explain this doofy idea (prayer hands to Bootstrap for the assist).

**The Result**

\- Over the course of two months, I sent about 100 unique letters to 38 unique states.

\- I was featured in [Product Hunt](https://www.producthunt.com/posts/phantom-letter)'s weekly newsletter, which caused a surge in traffic that left me with a particularly sore hand one week.

\- I wasn't sued by anyone. 👻

A pack of high intensity, durable, eco-friendly iMessage stickers that definitely aren't loosely based on any notable fat orange celebrity cats.

A sketch comedy album that I wrote, produced, and did all the voices for. Recorded on location in my closet, between the dress shirts and the suitcases.

I created an anti-inspirational sticker pack full of fruits with weird outlooks on life. A great way to tell your text threads they're being exhausting, you can grab them for yourself on the App Store.

A (very) short game about using deduction to find the correct Todd among a group of three Todds.

I asked 60 comedy writers to each blind write a single page of a hypothetical Austin Powers 4. It's a surprisingly coherent mess.
