Product Design in Portland, OR, He/him

About

Portland, Oregon based designer and musician with over 15 years of industry experience.

These days my design passion is focused on digital products for the web, as well as native applications. I believe meaningful customer experiences are a harmonious blend of a thoughtful brand vision and a compelling value proposition. Only then does excellent UX work move the needle. With a strategic and visionary approach, I lead teams toward innovative solutions that not only address genuine challenges, but also redefine the boundaries of user engagement.

Work Experience

2009 — Now

Through design led strategy, we help early-stage teams bring new products to market, and evolve and revolutionize existing brands. 2021 — 2024
Portland (remote)

I was fortunate to lead a small design team, solving problems for drivers in the gig economy. Our mission was to help drivers gig smarter and earn more with useful and contextual tools.

Focus: user experience, design system and product design for iOS and Android applications. Web portal and dashboard design. Brand design.

2016 — 2021
Portland (remote)

I directed product design for Tatari, an ad tech agency on a mission to modernize and democratize TV advertising. Working from the ground up, I began with six other teammates and watched the team grow to over three hundred employees. The Tatari platform combines a suite of best-in-class data visualization and ad reporting tools with innovative media buying software.

Focus: leading product design cross-functionally for Measurement and Reporting, Client Experience, and Media Buying teams. Managing design system evolution. Orchestrating hiring processes and leveling. Building a strategic vision for a vibrant and inclusive design team. Crafting quarterly roadmaps for future product vision. Creating first-of-its-kind and industry leading media buying software. Implementing processes for a design-first approach to product development.

2015 — 2017
Design Lead at Intel New Devices Group

I was a lead UX and visual designer for the New Devices Group at Intel. Our focus was emerging wearable technologies, specifically related to sport and fitness products. I did UX/UI design, and art direction for Android and iOS applications. These companion apps were designed to pair and interface with smart garments and head-worn or wrist-worn products, providing users with a means to actionably track their performance and gauge their improvements over time.

Focus: UX and interface design, art direction, prototyping, product and team management for clients including Oakley, Majestic, New Balance and more.

2012 — 2013
Portland

I was one of two product designers for Vizify, a small Portland based startup that was eventually acquired by Yahoo. Vizify was a suite of intuitive tools, generating interactive, infographic bios for users who connected their Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and/or Instagram accounts. These bios were fully editable and customizable, but beautiful and presentable out of the box. Vizify embodied a design-first approach to product development that was so refreshing, and, I think, a huge contributor to its growth and acquisition. With the help of two successful partnerships with Twitter we grew our user base organically to several hundred thousand individuals.

Focus: user experience and interface design, brand design, web and print design.

2011 — 2012

Focus: environment and experience design, both retail and corporate, package design, advertising, brand initiatives, concepting for clients including Nike and K2.

I was a graphic designer at Lucid, a small but mighty design studio in Portland with an emphasis on branding, product design and package design and prototyping.
