Negotiations as a junior designer

Day 2/30 - Every day for the month of October I share key learnings on different topics relating to design, product, and other skills from the internet

Category: Career tips

  • You

    • Demonstrate biz value as a designer

      How?

      • work backward

      • Think about what biz value you can bring

      • Think about what metric you want to optimize for

      • Evaluate your design on that metric

    • Common biz value

      1. More revenue → conversion rate

      2. Reduce cost → Service design, time spent on the task (usability), reduce man hours, HeadCount requirements to run a business

      3. Growth, user acquisition → paid (ads) or organic (SM, content, SEO) → bounce rate, click-through rate, CAC

      4. Retention → DAU (daily active user), MAU, WAU, engagement method

    • Examples:

      • Biz prompt → "reduce Customer Acquisition Cost"

      • Research → Now the company spends money through ads (paid ) and email marketing

      • Target → entrepreneur, merchant → Top searches “How do I create, find a logo for my new business” → high search volume per month + low competition

      • Find a strategy and create a proposal

      • Test out and measure result

    • Use this to talk about the next company → talk about their user acquisition problems/opportunities
