I helped Studio Piermaria design a catalogue that documented the launch of Flos’ new collection at Salone del Mobile 2019, Noctambule, using photographs by Santi Caleca.
Founded in 1962, Flos is recognised as a leading manufacturer of top-end designer lighting. Achille Castiglioni, Philippe Starck and Formafantasma are among the many designers that worked with Flos.
In 2019 Flos launched Noctambule, a lighting system designed by Konstantin Grcic. It is offered as a floor lamp, pendant, or chandelier. Made up of hand-blown glass cylinders, the transparent fixture is almost invisible to behold when unlit.
The paper cover book is printed with glow-in-the-dark ink. Typography is set in Burgess by Colophon Foundry and Univers by Adrian Frutiger.
The first part of the catalogue explains popular configurations, such as the small hanging lamps here below.
Other pages illustrate the aluminium connectors used in all configurations. To elevate their design and create realistic comparisons of size, 3D renders are used to match the point of view of each element.
In the book all possible systems are illustrated, to showcase their weight, height and style. Customers can use this to design their orders.
As of 2021, the paper book is still distributed to sellers worldwide.
