Matt from MTB Fitness recently approached us to design an identity for his new fitness app, MTB Fit. With many similar brands opting to use an icon with gym equipment, we wanted to make something more unique for his brand. Taking influence from sporting pictograms, like that designed by Gerhard Joksch & Otl Aicher for the 1972 Munich Olympics, allowed us to develop a simple icon that best represents the brand. The upper body of a mountain bike rider in a position of confidence and control allowed for negative space to incorporate a simple mountain shape. This approach creates an icon that can work across the demands of smart devices.
