Designing Sweet things
About
Accra based creative, I pride myself in creating artistic and innovative design projects for brands and startups.
Currently a Product Designer at NewComma. Designing thoughtful interfaces to help African creatives connect and share their ideas with Figma. Sporadically I also take on freelance projects.
Work Experience
At NewComma, I am constantly collaborating closely with developers and stakeholders to revamp the platform, enhancing the experience for African creatives and content creators.
Working on the new version of the product as an insider involves deciding which parts of the platform require a redesign and which aspects should remain unchanged. Through close collaboration with a design lead and product stakeholders, I gained valuable insights into the process of building a product from scratch. The platform now boasts over 10,000 users and recently concluded a successful funding round. I take pride in my significant contribution to this achievement, as my insider products played a key role in pitching the future capabilities of the platform to investors.
Ravka Consult is a trustworthy company specializing in developing various products, including Esports, Fintech, and Pet Applications. Working there gave me tremendous creative freedom to think critically, collaborate with teams and stakeholders, design, and iterate repeatedly to create memorable products for our clients and their users.
One of my challenges was managing a team of designers, which was a new experience for me. It was during this time that I truly understood the essence of design and how to guide younger designers to adopt a problem-solving mindset. Design is not just about moving rectangles and changing colors but rather a means to solve problems effectively.
Effects Studio introduced me to remote team collaboration during the onset of Covid. I collaborated with teams from various countries to design Interfaces for different languages and regions. It was my first time working with international teams, utilizing tools like Figma, Notion, Google Meet, and Asana to monitor our progress and achievements. I had the opportunity to work on multiple E-commerce projects, including a mining company's website where I had creative freedom to showcase their mining equipment for sale.
I took on a freelance project involving a government website. The goal was to create a user-friendly platform for Ghanaians to access governmental services conveniently.
This project was a new challenge for me, especially since it was a government-related task, and I was unsure where to begin. However, with the guidance of the Product Manager, I learned how to break down complex issues into smaller, manageable tasks and develop critical thinking skills for problem-solving in design.
I collaborated with a team of four designers and the development team. We attended numerous meetings and gathered user data to gain a better understanding of the user experience (UX) before proceeding with the interface design for the project. I was responsible for designing the homepage, search function, and contributing to the development of the Design System.
ExpressPay is a payment processing company in Accra, Ghana, focused on facilitating mobile transactions for everyday Ghanaians.
During my time at ExpressPay, I was responsible for improving the user experience of specific parts of the app related to sending and receiving funds. Collaborating with designers and developers, we brainstormed, refined, and implemented clear and user-friendly designs for the live product.
Additionally, I worked on enhancing the in-app ticket purchasing experience for Afrochella, one of Ghana's largest annual events. This posed a challenge as it involved gathering feedback from live users, understanding their issues with our initial ideas, and iterating on them to deliver functional products.
Worked on social media management, brand design, and website development, but mainly on Graphic design for companies to post on their social media platforms
Projects
Spawn Camp Fire Accra was an esports and gaming event in Ghana aimed at promoting esports as the future of competitive sports among the younger generation. As the founder, project lead, and event planner, I faced numerous challenges and pushed myself to the limit, from managing a team to turning ideas into reality.
Delegating tasks within my team was crucial in finding the best approach to engage the younger audience of gamers. We designed and developed a website that catered to their needs, while also creating a ticketing platform to handle user registrations and reservations for the event.
I'm proud to share that our ticketing platform garnered over 250 reservations, and our marketing strategy proved successful as we hosted over 170 people for our inaugural event. This project encompassed multiple roles for me: founder, manager, product lead, and event planner, making it one of the most challenging endeavors I've undertaken.
I eagerly look forward to embracing more challenges in the future.
