Hi! We're looking for an experienced principal product designer to join us in San Diego or Austin to tackle the very meaty design problem that is ERPs and resource planning in general. As the first designer, you'll have outsized impact on design decisions, help shape our design culture, and solve real pains for our customers while delighting them with a rewarding experience.

Compensation: $300K
Equity: 5%

About the startup & founders

The ERP market size is expected to reach $123B by 2030 but the latest tools remain cumbersome, confusing, complex. We think tackling this starts with headcount planning and reconciliation - about 60-70% of any company's costs. As layoffs and poor headcount decision making cause headaches for both companies and employees alike, we believe there's a better way to plan.

Our mission is to make continuous resource planning easy and to unlock high performing teams for a more transparent, equitable, and compliant workforce. Modus harnesses the signals across HRIS, ATS, expense and finance systems so leaders can visualize and execute plans, allocate budgets, and make data-driven decisions in one unified workflow.

While we are just at the beginning, both founders have extensive experience in the industry. One of the co-founders was early Google engineer and built multiple companies in the past, writing significant amount of code at each company. The other cofounder has scaled from 100 to 2500+, through to IPO and beyond.

Role Mission

Rapidly prototype to get us from Zero to One and from One to Scale. We have existing prototypes ready and design partners on board. They need to be refined.

Role Outcomes

• First two weeks: get up to speed on our customers, ideal customer profile, product roadmap and vision, user journeys, and UX goals. Join customer calls.

• Within the first 60 days: refine the current prototypes based on customer feedback and get a v1 ready for build.

• Within the first 90 days: Launch MVP to private beta with design partners.

• Within the 6 months: Launch MSP to a broader user base.

• Beyond: continue to champion a customer-centric approach, iterate on the product vision to inform design decisions

• Set the momentum in rapid prototyping, validating ideas, and bringing concepts to life

• Help facilitate a seamless implementation experience with our engineers

• Lead and set the tone for design best practices and industry trends

About you

• You have 10+ years experience in designing B2B software, especially complex dashboards with lots of data

• You are an expert in rapid prototyping and design engineering. You love iterating on ideas and validating concepts.

• You've worked at early-stage startups and/or you've built your own products before.

• You are well versed in working with engineers

• You love seeing customers delighted by an excellent product experience

• You're able to provide references with people you've worked with

Bonus points if you:

• Have worked in Fintech or HR tech before

• Have gone from 0 to 1

• Have basic understanding of Svelte, React, Next.js, Vue (we have strong preference for Svelte)

• Can write top notch design content about your process / principles / systems
