About

Design lead/director and startup founder with 18 years of experience across digital advertising and products. I'm most fulfilled when I get to work across brand and product in new areas of technology, working alongside talented and driven individuals.

Previously, I co-founded Caravel, which was an AI company helping companies better understand the voice of their customers. Sold to Commsor in '22. Before that, I led design at Wieden+Kennedy's creative technology group Lodge, which worked with companies such as Samsung, Nike, and Intuit to push forward-thinking brand and product experiences.

Work Experience

2020 — Now
Design Director (Product/Brand) at Self
Portland, OR et al.

In my independent design practice, I partner with ambitious startups and established companies that are ready to take their next big step. I typically play lead roles across product, design, and creative. Additionally, I often help coach founders on how to build design-led companies. My focus areas are AI, crypto/blockchain, creative tooling, and climate tech.

2018 — 2020
Portland, OR

I co-founded Caravel and built a B2B conversational intelligence platform that surfaces actionable learnings from customer conversations using natural language processing and machine learning. Part of the Techstars Seattle ‘20 cohort. Acquired by Commsor in June ‘22.

2014 — 2018
Portland, OR

I led the design practice in an experimental creative group within the agency called Lodge. Our goal was to help brands explore novel ways to connect and communicate with their customers through experiential storytelling and digital products. I guided our design practice, mentored teammates, and partnered with our clients at Nike, Samsung, Coca-Cola, Intuit, KFC, and Anki Robotics.

2011 — 2014
Co-founder, Design at Flavor
Salt Lake City, UT & Portland, OR

I co-founded Flavor to focus on digital products and brand experiences. We built a small team that worked in-house with startups and established companies to help them bring their concepts to market. Our team was acquired by Wieden+Kennedy Portland to build a design and technology offering for their clients.

2011 — 2013
Salt Lake City, UT

I was an adjunct professor teaching Interactive Media & Motion Design for the Department of Art & Art History. I set the curriculum and taught juniors/seniors for two Winter quarters.

2007 — 2011
Salt Lake City, UT

I wanted to get closer to the metal when it came to coming up with campaigns and seeing them through production. I also got a chance to do this with some of the best agencies in the world and learn how important storytelling is in communications.

2005 — 2007
Pittsburgh, PA

After a brief internship, I was hired on as a Flash designer/developer working in the “digital” department of the agency. Immersive website as my focus in those years and my interest shifted to art direction over development.
