About
I’m a graphic designer & web developer based in Edinburgh, UK. I enjoy doodling, puzzles & solving problems.
Projects
This is the most recent full site design / construction I’ve undertaken. OPEN is an Landscape Architecture / Environment Consultancy. Their previous website had been in place for last 8+ years, and was extremely dated. They were looking for a clean, responsive site that served two key requirements; ease of access to key info (staff list, contact info), and a page structure that was flexible enough to accommodate the wide range of project types that they wished to display.
Key details include Vue.js filtering & search component used on the people / journal / project listing pages and modular page construction, to give the client flexibility to build up the pages using a range of content types.
Built on Kirby CMS (php based), using Vue.js and GSAP animation library for animation control.
Portfolio site for Vicky Higginson, and award-winning glass artist based in Edinburgh. She focuses her business in three areas, artist / designer / maker, and was looking to make the distinction between these areas as clear as possible.
Vicky makes bold, dynamic pieces, often with bold use of colour, and the priority for me was to let the work took centre stage.
Built on Kirby CMS.
The Scottish Glass Society is a charitable organisation, whose mission is to promote contemporary Scottish glass artists and craftspeople. They were looking to ease the burden of managing the charity by allowing the website to shoulder some of the tasks, such as managing their members (and the associated fees), and serving as a news hub and event listing (to reduce the frequency of newsletters they were having to produce).
Site is built on WordPress, taking advantage of the plugin ecosystem to provide the various functions they required.
Work Experience
Operating as part of the internal digital team, developing and improving digital dashboards and tools to assist in the delivery of patient support.
Roles include working with members throughout the organisation to establish tool requirements, design & development of various dashboards / learning hubs, investigating existing issues and bugs.
Work is typically built on WordPress CMS, and particular focus is given to accessibility and GDPR data management requirements.
Currently working on internal theme / style guide / component set to speed up development of future projects.
Full website design, construction and hosting service for a variety of clients, in addition to offering graphic design services.
Design stage involves assessing the clients requirements, developing various potential proposals, and then working closely with the client to produce the best possible solution. Communication is crucial, and various methods are used to relay design ideas, from static illustrations to code examples and interactive prototypes.
Website construction involves full stack development, using HTML, CSS, and Javascript technologies, typically built on PHP based content management systems including WordPress, extended as required with custom functionality as required. Consideration is given to addressing accessibility requirements and site performance.
Maintaining professional knowledge of latest techniques, in order to consistently deliver the best solution using the most appropriate technology available.
