MSc Project - Greening the Grey, Green Walls to alleviate air pollution at University of Glasgow

In recent years, air pollution has become a big concern worldwide given that particulate matter (PM), including PM10 and PM2.5, has had a major impact on public health and life quality. Many studies have shown that plants can capture PM and increase air quality. The purpose of the project is to provide a systematic literature review in the field of green walls, a bioengineered system that aims to be a solution as it is designed to improve air quality in urbanised areas, with a focus on the mechanisms of the plants to capture PM.
The report concludes with a study case of “Vía Verde”, a green wall project developed in Mexico City that has been critically assessed and analysed, as it was employed as a promising measure to encounter the negative impacts of air pollution.
Keywords: Particulate Matter, Air Pollution, Green Walls, Leaves, Plants, PM capture.

2020
Decarbonization of the University of Glasgow at University of Glasgow

As part of the Integrated Design System Project, the team and I came up with a wind energy approach with an output of 28.3GW that would provide a reduction of 7848 tons of CO2 and savings up to 2.8M pounds per year.
