“All is Alive" is an immersive art exhibition by Marina Leonteva that explores the perpetual motion and vibrancy of life in the face of death and decay. This thought-provoking showcase delves into the beauty and resilience found in the natural world, highlighting the delicate balance between life and death, full of hope and melancholy.
The artist works oscillate between abstraction and figurativeness, filled with flowing sensuality and chaotic dissimilarity. Her art includes naive references to russian cosmism and its cosmic sense of immortality, while also referring to the hopelessness inherent in the films of Bela Tarr.
This catastrophic discrepancy between the possibilities of a living being and external circumstances is a recurring theme throughout her pieces.
The choice of fabrics, yarns, and tempera paints as mediums, as well as the significant role assigned to color, is a deliberate nod to tradition and an emphasis on the resistance of the material. This emphasis on effort and symbolism parallels the theme of striving for life, illustrating that beauty requires effort, no matter how effortless it may appear.
Marina Leonteva embraces the concept of "New Sincerity," aiming to address and heal "old untrendy human troubles," as Wallace claimed. Her art stands as a testament against obduracy and cynicism, advocating for a humane, contemplative approach to life. She believes that the art and practice of contemplation can ease the burden of the struggle with reality, alleviate loneliness, and help individuals find meaning amidst the noise of life.
Through "All is Alive," Marina Leonteva invites viewers to witness life blossoming around death, to appreciate the resilience of the natural world, and to find solace and hope in the enduring beauty of living beings.
This exhibition is about life’s persistence, a reminder that despite sorrow and grief, life continues to thrive, and beauty can save us after all.
