• Award: Semifinalist CHI 2018, Design Competition - Canada.
• What: Every day thousands of Londoners are being exposed to dangerous levels of air pollution, with an estimated 9,500 of Londoners dying prematurely as a result. However, the urgency of this issue is often neglected due to the invisibility of pollutants among us. In order to support environmental organisations such as Greenpeace Camden, a push towards the increase of public awareness is essential when tackling air pollution. VisuaLife, is an engaging campaign which aims to visualise air pollution in the form of t-shirts displayed in an exhibition. Volunteers from the Camden community were asked to wear the t-shirt for one day during their daily activities. Each of the tshirts includes a GPS reading and an air pollution monitor to ensure an accurate reading of the participants' exposure to air pollution.
In collaboration with the MIT Media Lab, once the t-shirts were collected we sprayed them with ink extracted from vehicle emissions. The amount of ink is calculated based on the index taken from the air pollution monitor. Once sprayed all t-shirts were attached with a tag, showing the participants daily route, highlighting the polluted areas.
The T-shirts were then displayed together in an exhibition. The exhibition acted as a platform for discussion among all residents and empowered Greenpeace Camden to call for environment-friendly changes among politicians and industry leaders.

Writing

2020

We often hear that if you want to be innovative and stand out from the crowd, you have to think outside of the box, challenge the status quo, and think without limitations. This way of approaching a problem has become a status quo in itself.
How can we disrupt the creative thinking exercise?
