About
UX/Product Designer simplifying science into data monitoring, modeling, and visualization tools.
Projects
National data ecosystem that makes data and AI accessible and equitable across all levels of expertise. Users leverage cyberinfrastructure (CI) to access data, reserve CI resources, and run AI and data projects within JupyterHub and MLFlow. They can collaborate, host workflows, host classrooms and assignments, and host/participate in data challenges.
Role:
*Collaborated with scientists and developers of varying backgrounds to convert ideas into features, prioritized for
*Designed the flows for major functions: landing page, browsing data catalog, core workspace functionality, education hub with modularized assignments, hosting classrooms/data challenges
*Designed UI for expert-user features: an advanced search that expands search results based off knowledge graphs and visually shows histograms about the statistics
First-of-its-kind decision-support platform that assists fire professionals with planning and executing controlled fires. It helps burn bosses model predictions, understand risks and tradeoffs, visualize hundreds of simulations, and monitor live environmental data.
Role:
*Design and pitch mockups, user journeys, UX deliverables, and direct conversations toward design thinking
*Develop web interface from scratch for burn planning and visualization
*Plan and conduct user interviews and testing
Operational tool for real-time environmental data visualization, fire behavior modeling and forecasting, and "what if?" analyses for potential fires. Fire modelers actively collaborate with fire departments across California to respond to active fires.
Role:
*Research users and redesigned existing map interface to make features more discoverable, more intuitive for new onboarders, and more consistent for better recall.
*Design integration of requested features by fire departments
*Document existing functionalities, symbologies, and brand colors. Rebranding the symbology and color across the map and data layers.
*Partner with external collaborators to design + integrate two new methods of fire behavior modeling, visualize outputs, and compare models across modeling methods.
Integrated into BurnPro3D: Use Edge computing to process data from live sensors at the site of the controlled burn, enabling quicker real-time situational awareness monitoring.
Role:
*Lead design of Edge computing and live monitoring integration into BurnPro3D, navigating ambiguity in feature specifications
Regional Resource Kits (RRK) are statewide regional datasets consisting of environment management-related metrics. RRK is part of the Forest Data Hub, a data hub with a federated data system that hosts multiple databases.
Role:
*Pioneer and completely redesign RRK interface for easy display and download of RRK datas
*Updated and maintained data
Culturally-informed mental health telehealth service
Role:
*Designed client portal for selecting and scheduling a provider
*Documented and expanded brand for marketing uses
*Development support when front-end engineers needed it
Online friendship community aimed to guarantee and foster deep connections
Role:
*Redesigned onboarding structure to improve user retention
*Designed and rolled out new features for increasing user engagement
*Hosted design sprints to collect and validate an interdisciplinary set of ideas for app's MVP
*Developed iOS app prototype
Work Experience
- Lead end-to-end UX/UI design and development across 5 projects, delivering features that respond to, monitor, and prevent wildfires.
- Design prototypes, developed front-end interfaces that visualize 2D & 3D models, simulations, maps, camera & satellite data, alerts, and data charts & tables.
- Conducted interviews, produced and prototyped UX deliverables, and tested an online friendship community, increasing community engagement by ~20% and grew community to 1400+ members from scratch
- Hosted remote design sprints that cycled quickly from ideation to prototype testing within a week
- Learned Swift and coded an iOS app - Codepath Demo Day 2021 finalist
- Mocked up consumer-facing user portal that integrated a client scheduling experience for users, with 97% positive experience.
- Structured branding and UI elements to lay the skeleton of a new design system. Collaborated with front-end engineers and contributed code.
- Researched and developed an immunological tool designed for scientists that optimized the accuracy of our ML algorithm.
- Took the initiative to mock up multiple feature redesigns for website hosting 25+ immunology products used by major biopharmaceutical companies.
- Contributed to second author publication
- Contributed to 3 middle author publications
