What is Swiggy Moments?
Swiggy Moments is a customer-to-customer gifting marketplace on Swiggy to inspire and enable last-minute gifting for different occasions, whether casual ones like Thank you, Sorry, Miss you, etc., or traditional ones like birthdays and anniversaries
With restaurant food as a category, the offering aims to be a useful avenue for last-minute casual gifting occasions - taking inspiration from the concept prevalent in the Western culture (like picking a box of chocolates or a bottle of wine while visiting a friend’s house), the offering has 50+ item collections for various moods, occasion, cuisines & brands.
The gifting supply universe in v1 has 400+ top-rated (4+ rating), marquee & premium resto-brands like Starbucks, Theobroma, Royce Chocolates, Le 15, etc. co-created in assistance with the Swiggy Mumbai team’s local expertise. Each item collection is different from another and has hyper-locally curated 50-100 bestsellers & must-try gift-worthy dishes to pick and choose from.
The service also enables the gifter (person sending the gift) to personalize the gift by different means like - recording & sending a video message or writing a note and sending it along with a nice digital card to express his/her feelings according to the occasion.
Currently, it’s an intra-city service launching in Mumbai. Swiggy users can access Swiggy Moments from its app (Android & iOS) by selecting the recipient’s location, filling in the recipient’s name & contact number, choosing the right occasion from 15+ listed occasions, or just browsing multiple cuisine & brand collections, and lastly picking the suitable gift-worthy food item(s) they want to send as a gift.
Some Insights after launching “Swiggy Moments”
Where are we currently?
We were trending at an average order per day (OPD) of about 70 in the month of January with over 2,100 peaks (orders) being delivered at an average order value of 510 INR
We have also been witnessing the strong emergence of casual gifting behavior, with nearly 60% of the total gifters using Moments for casual occasions/gifting (e.g.: Express love, Congrats, etc.).
This has further signalled validation of casual gifting moat which Swiggy Moments aims to see
Three clear cohorts of consumers are now visible: planned gifters (56%), casual explorers (33%), and referrals (11%)
The top three occasions for gifting for users have been: “Express love” (~28%), “Birthday” (~18%), and “Festival” gifting (~14%)
About 22% of gifters were from other cities who gifted food to their loved ones in Mumbai during the month of January, indicating a potential for inter-city gifting use case.
Some early insights and learnings:
Our orders spiked as festivities began during the month of December. At 236 orders, Moments saw its highest OPD on Christmas
Over 2,200 peaks were delivered and the average gift order value was around INR 480 during December
About 10% of Moments users opted for a personalized video greeting (sent via Swiggy Moments platform) while sending gifts to their loved ones.
