Product Designer in Vancouver, BC

About

I grew up in my parent's bookstore in Steveston, B.C. There, I spent long hot summers pouring over book covers, magazine fold outs, and maps. And of course I read a lot of books 📚

I've worked as a designer in different capacities for over 15 years—from running press checks in the middle of the night, to leading UX for teams building enterprise features.

2014 — 2015
Vancouver, BC

My role supported the Communications team in marketing initiatives and awareness campaigns, primarily by designing and illustrating assets for both printed matter, on social media, and on the foundation website. Supporting events led by the philanthropy department is also a large part of my day-to-day work.

2013 — 2014
Interaction designer at Loud Crow Interactive
Vancouver, BC

Working with brands such as Peanuts (Charlie Brown), Richard Scarry's Busytown and Caillou, I've had the opportunity to see the inner workings of the children's app industry. In-app purchases, demographic behaviour in mobile environments and user conversion are dimensions that affected my day-to-day work at Loud Crow.

2012 — 2013
Vancouver

As the sole web developer and front-end developer, I was tasked with rebuilding the Science World website on the Drupal CMS. I also managed our email campaign system in addition to producing visuals for promotional purposes.

In this role, I used my background in designing for parents of school-aged children in order to craft an efficient yet inclusive user experience. I also implemented a mobile-first approach to user experience.

2008 — 2012
Vancouver

Working as part of a team of graphic designers, I assisted the creative director in maintaining visual brand standards across a range of avenues, including fundraising, exhibit design, marketing, Science World hosted events and internal communication.

Day-to-day work required a great deal of typographic layout, illustration and communicating effectively within a creative team. Above and beyond basic knowledge of Adobe's Creative Suite, I learned a great deal about large format printing and pre-press.
