About
For a living I do a combination of design and code... ideally for projects, organizers, and groups that are invested in art and ephemera, critical inquiry, sociality and equity.
Projects
Identity and book design for an oral history workbook. A skill-building and reference book for artists developing oral narratives and interview-based projects that approach such a practice as co-constructed and creative rather than as reparative ‘truth.’ We tell stories not as fixed subjects but as artists who are alive and breathing, and this workbook shares methods of listening, remembering, gossiping, questioning, and framing.
Civic engagement tool for those living in Los Angeles County. Enter in your address and get a breakdown of your direct representation, ways to get involved in issues around your block and some 101 civic education.
Design system, art direction, front-end coding and project collaborator. This was a collaborative, non-hierarchical project led by a small team across the newsroom, with folks from Utility Reporting, Data & Graphics and Design.
A series of major climate stories across the Western states by L.A. Times reporter Sammy Roth. I was the series art director and also built and designed the landing page which featured stories published over the course of a year, a changing map of the places Sammy traveled and reported from and related content for each story.
A website and identity for the opening of Inverse Surveillance Project, a multi-media art installation co-created with the Arab and Muslim American communities in the Chicagoland area. This collaborative art project was a "sequel" to Assia Boundaoui's film, The Feeling of Being Watched, a documentary investigating a decade of FBI surveillance in Assia's Muslim-American community.
The installation featured a life-sized labyrinth, an immersive community archive repurposing thousands of records from the decade of FBI surveillance, and community and craft programming.
Worthy Wine Works is a limited edition natural wine fundraiser. Twelve artists—Cauleen Smith, Mario Ayala, Rodrigo Valenzuela, Kang Seung Lee, Marisa Takal, Alex Heilbron, Zoe Latta, Lauren Quin, Lauren Satlowski, Cassi Namoda, Nick Sethi, and Dave Muller—created wine labels for LACA, paired with twelve unique natural wines, all produced in Central California.
