Projects
Light and video design for the autobiographical performance "JAG ÄR GUD" about the life of choreographer, dancer and artist Danne Dahlin and his life with bipolar disease.
Hybrid sculpture for the London Camomile street. Carved from sustainably sourced timber, the sculpture shape evokes the imagery of a gateway, inviting viewers to reflect on possible futures, transformation, and the threshold between realities. The piece relies on a complex pattern, milled into the outer layer of our three-layered design, acting as a "marker" guiding the augmented reality experience.
"Tufting Ex Machina" was a two-day workshop at @aavistus where 10 participants engaged in a dadaist method resulting in 24 tufted squares, covering a surface of 140 * 210 cm. The assignment was to research ones identity (cultural, national, personal and more) through patterns, and work with sketching and generative AI to combine, remix and create anew. With a quick intro to the tufting machine, participants began their journey into yarn and rug making.
For this particular workshop, @rose.hallgren designed and built a custom modular frame for compact transportation. It worked so well, and more development of the design is to come! To make things additionally interesting, conductive thread was added, providing several touch points, while producing a (very improvised) multilayer track using Beepbox. The touch points would trigger sound made with ZzFX.

Bespoke light rings with a 300 RGB dual-side pixels, with custom silicone diffusion.
Audiovisual design and stage production for Danny Saucedo in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish precursor to Eurovision song contest.
Celebration of Sala turning 400 years with a beautifully crafted and technically executed audioisual mapping installation on a curved corner wall.
Interactive installation where visitors can light a large Zippo lighter like fire using their own flame.
Deluxe suite designed and sculpted for Icehotel 365. Inspired by Murder on the Orient Express and a heavy dose of Londons 1930 Art Moderne.
Augmentead reality artwork that opens a rip in reality to a flouroshing walnut field in the middle of the desert.
Light sign exhibition with an open call for illustrations which were then made as faux neon signs. Displayed in one of the busiest metro stations in Stockholm, and auctioned out with proceeds towards Unicef.
Suite designed and sculpted for Icehotel. An animal haven and sanctuary guarded by the fenix and the fox, riddled with clues on how to gain entrance.
Exhibitions
Glommen is my first personal work, created during a pivotal time after moving to Canada from Japan. While working at a leading design studio on large-scale stage experiences, I transitioned from viewing code as function to embracing it as sculpture. Inspired by my father, a painter of light, I began experimenting. Glommen reflects the connection to my seaside hometown and the bittersweet anticipation of life without my father. The sun's position in the artwork mirrors his birthday, near the summer solstice.

Jonas Johansson moves within the flow and ebb of light and technology, creating work that reveals itself to those who linger. His art is grounded in conceptualism, merging physical and digital realms to explore the delicate balance between form and function—too much force, and it breaks; too little, and it fades. From QR-marked melting ice to bio couture woven with augmented reality, each piece invites the viewer to probe its purpose, challenging the boundaries of perception and interaction.
Jonas Johansson, a Stockholm-based artist, educator, and designer, is known for his inventive fusion of light, technology, and human interaction. His work bridges the traditional and contemporary, blending tactile materials with digital interfaces to craft immersive experiences that reveal new layers of meaning and challenge perception.
Jonas currently designs courses for Svenska Tecknare, integrating foundational design with emerging technologies, and serves as an Assessor for Kulturbryggan under the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden), evaluating projects in Transmedia, Game, and Scenic Design. Since 2017, he has lectured in Visual Communication at Beckmans College of Design, covering topics from motion graphics to immersive media.
