Art Director / Photographer in Remote

About

Jesse Echevarria is a Senior Creative, an Art Director, a Designer, and a Photographer from Puerto Rico based in the US and MX.

I am a photographer, an art director, and a creative with over 13 years of experience, constantly in search of new challenges, design projects, and adventures to document around the world. As an Art Director, I have had the privilege of working in creative agencies around Puerto Rico, Dallas, and New York, creating advertising and branding campaigns for the multicultural and general market. After years of working in the industry, my new passion for photography grew alongside the desire to discover a new lifestyle that led me to explore the world.

As my passport to travel, photography has become the perfect excuse for me to visit places I never imagined, fueling my passion for art, exploration, and the documentation of cultural moments. Witnessing these experiences has granted me the opportunity to capture significant images of the countries I visit and tell the stories of the lives of those around me, transforming my view of the world. Through my photographic journey, I recognize the importance of making a positive contribution to these places, inspiring me and providing me with a purpose beyond creating art, integrating me into local communities, and giving back something created with heart.

Currently, my work focuses on the documentation from a cultural perspective on collaboration with non-governmental organizations to help educate and give a voice to communities around the south of Chiapas, Mexico.

ALL-STAR 2023 BSN PUERTO RICO BRANDING

Client: RIMAS / BSN PR
Awards: Bronze Cúspide (Puerto Rico)

Description:

In 1973, the Roberto Clemente Coliseum debuted with the performance of the Fania All-Stars in Puerto Rico. The BSN All-Star Weekend is held annually at the home of one of the national league's teams. In 2023, it took place at the Cangrejeros' home. We decided to celebrate the history represented by the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, which extends far beyond sports. We developed a graphic identity inspired by the 1970s era, salsa music, Santurce, and sports. For the first time, the event combined musical artistic performances with sports. The weekend concluded with a tribute to Fania, commemorating 50 years since its inauguration.

TEMPORADAS BRANDING

Client: Para La Naturaleza

Description:

Puerto Rico is well known for its all-year-round warm tropical climate, but as we look closer, we can find an endless number of seasons that go unnoticed. The importance of these seasons lies in their connection with the geography of the Puerto Rican archipelago and their relevance in the processes of production, harvest, and consumption of food. In the face of climate change, recognizing our seasons and supporting regenerative agriculture is now more important than ever.

As we learn more about these changes and the effects they have on the island, we understand more about its processes to make better decisions for the health of our ecosystems and our own well-being. To make it possible for families and communities to learn more about this subject we must first open up a conversation, and what better place to do this than the dining table.

Temporadas is an annual culinary and educational event where donors and participants are able to explore an agroecological approach through food in support of Puerto Rico's farmers and its agricultural communities. An in-person dinner and a virtual cooking experience, where participants can enjoy a delicious menu crafted by a group of talented local chefs that make use of a selected list of four in-season ingredients while learning about the benefits of consuming locally produced food and how this affects the growth of Puerto Rico's sustainable agriculture.

Another Silent Night

Client: United Nations

Description:

TO FIGHT AGAINST PREJUDICE, WE BROUGHT 32 REFUGEES TO NYC FOR CHRISTMAS AND RECREATED A HOLIDAY CLASSIC BASED ON THEIR STORIES.

The number of people around the world suffering from conflict, famine and natural disasters is the highest in history. Millions lack the most basic resources or even a means to ask for help. To bring attention to the millions in need during the holiday season, they needed a voice. So, gave them 32. We rewrote a more personal version of one the most famous Christmas carols based off the stories of 32 refugees from 17 countries. Then we took them to the heart of NYC to share their message, asking the world to not stay silent during this time of crisis.

With incredible summer weather, surfers in Puerto Rico can easily adapt to the different swells that hit the island’s coastlines and ride its waves almost all year long. But Puerto Rico’s identity as a surfing destination is also rooted in the local surfing community, the pillars of which are surfboard craftsmen.

Composed of locals who have spent their entire lives surfing and studying the island’s waves, craftsmen use their experience as inspiration to build beautiful surfboards by hand. Not only

are their designs works of art that have been personalized for the needs and skills of each customer, but they are also a relevant symbol of identity for any local surfers who own these boards.

Side Projects

2023

On an assignment with The Jungle Journal Magazine, I had the opportunity to once again venture into the jungles of southern Mexico to photograph and document a journey that would take us from Palenque into the heart of Lacandona and its communities. On a mission to educate and bring awareness to the outside world, TJJ's new project aims to bring travelers to explore this beautiful jungle, discover its rich biodiversity and culture while living, and sharing moments with the Mayan descendants, the Lacandons.

Working on meaningful projects like this helps me remember how privileged I am to do what I love for a living, work that not only creates beautiful art that reflects the world around me, but also helps document and tell the stories of these incredible cultures and the interesting people I meet along my journey.
