For the last three years I've been designing and laying out The Drift magazine, as well as creating spot illustrations for their Dispatch section.
Each illustration corresponds to a single short essay, commissioned each issue around a specific theme (the Supreme Court, the avant-garde, climate activism etc). The magazine prints in black and white so I always do the illustrations in grayscale, with the knowledge they must look good in print and on the web, alone but also in the context of others.
I've enjoyed experimenting with slightly different styles each time, tailored to fit the magazine's contents.
