These past few years I've spent a lot of time running, training for several half marathons and the upcoming NYC marathon. Because of this, I was inspired to create a board game that was based on running the marathon, which I tentatively titled "Set the Pace."
The idea takes the core mechanic of moving across the board to reach the end first, giving each player stats to balance, items to pickup and ways to influence other runners.
After drafting up a board game design document and getting friends to review it, I created a test prototype with paper, card sleeves, and extra dice I had lying around. I played a game by myself, then a few games with some friends.
As of right now, I determined that the current approach is not the way I'd like to keep going and am reworking what this may look like in the future as I still believe this idea has potential.
Feel free to leave comments or thoughts on the design document for ways to improve it.
