### **The Challenge**

I joined the OneSkin team in 2020 after the company completed five years of research. I was brought onto the project to launch the e-commerce, the new brand, and its first product, designed to reduce skin’s biological age. I was responsible for implementing the business’ Go-to-Market strategy.

### **The Opportunities**

OneSkin created a new habit of consumption in the beauty and longevity market, with a product focused on reducing skin’s biological age from the inside out. The OS-01 Face was their first and only product at launch, so I needed to build a one-product e-commerce.

OneSkin's product is backed by science, with a patented peptide as its main ingredient. This called for a more minimal approach in the e-commerce's design, more in touch with the brand’s science and lab traits.

### **The Results**

OneSkin sold over USD 1,200,000.00, 88% of which in subscriptions, in just one year and a half since the product's launch. It has over 80% retention from its subscribers.

Developing management solutions for the beauty salons and professionals was an integral part of Beauty Date's mission. Therefore, after launching the desktop management system, we also developed a native app. This was key to deepen Beauty Date's services within the industry.

1. **Immerse**

   This is the main pillar of Design Thinking. By truly relating to both the business and the users, I can better understand their needs. I conduct immersive research, actually caring about every aspect of the business and the product. This step involves briefing and extensive benchmarking.

2. **Define**

   I work with the stakeholders and the team to define the challenge and set the goals. Always respecting the company and the project’s previous history, this collaborative work is key to defining strategy, scope, and timeline. This step also involves market analysis and conceiving personas.

3. **Analyze**

   I analyze the data that was gathered and work with the team to summarize it. This will guide the process of creating the solutions. By planning the actions that need to be taken, I optimize efficiency. This step involves developing a detailed and visual roadmap and outlining KPIs.

4. **Ideate**

   I facilitate collaborative thinking so that insights can be given comfortably and freely. This step involves making connections between the ideas and experiences of each member of the team.

5. **Prototype**

   I develop prototypes of the main gathered ideas to validate them. This will help test the adherence of the solutions with the users. This step involves developing MVPs, which will facilitate and optimize efficient validation.

6. **Design**

   I craft refined digital experiences that go beyond the interface, creating people-centered solutions. I develop end-to-end design while keeping it simple and interesting.

7. **Deploy**

   After handing over the designs, I keep assisting the developers with any clarifications they may need. By working with motion design, I facilitate the development of detailed user experiences.

8. **Measure**

   I work closely with the team to measure the results. This is key to understanding the reasons behind every aspect of the public’s reception of the product.

9. **Scale**

   I develop design systems that ensure scalability. By working with component-based design, I give the project sustainability and long-term impact.

### Measure a Success Project

 1. **User Satisfaction**: The satisfaction of the end users is a critical measure of success. Positive feedback, user reviews, and high Net Promoter Scores (NPS) indicate that the product meets the needs and expectations of its intended audience.

 2. **Usability and Accessibility**: A successful product design ensures that users can easily and efficiently interact with the product. Usability testing, user interface assessments, and adherence to accessibility standards contribute to this aspect.

 3. **User Engagement**: Metrics such as user engagement, active users, and time spent on the product can indicate how well the design encourages user interaction and retention.

 4. **Conversion Rates**: For products with a specific goal, such as e-commerce or sign-ups, conversion rates are crucial. A successful product design should lead to a higher conversion rate by guiding users through the intended user journey.

 5. **Adoption and Retention Rate**s: The number of users who adopt the product and continue to use it over time reflects its success. High retention rates indicate that users find value in the product and are willing to stick with it.

### **The Challenge / Opportunities**

Glowy was the first online scheduling plugin for e-commerce in Brazil. As co-founder and Chief Product Officer, I could apply everything I learned from years of perfecting the Beauty Date app and business. We were able to develop the product faster, with high quality and efficiency.

### **The Proposal**

At Glowy, we also developed a native app in which the customers could schedule beauty services. Different from Beauty Date, this product was focused on e-commerce instead of beauty salons.

Another feature was a Glowy widget to be used by the establishments in their own websites and apps. Alongside with the management system, the widget met the e-commerce's online scheduling needs.

### **The Results**

In less than one year, Glowy was acquired by Grupo Boticário, which is the second-biggest beauty group in Brazil. Glowy remains the main tool for scheduling a beauty service online at Boticário stores (there are over 4K stores across the country).

### **The Challenge**

Our main challenge at Beauty Date was validating the market and creating a new habit with mobile first. As co-founder and Chief Product Designer, I developed the first CRM (online scheduling platform) integrated with an ERP in the beauty market. That was years before on-demand food delivery apps, Uber, and other similar products reached the market.

Beauty Date validated the market as a mobile-first company, since it was one of the very first on-demand scheduling platforms. We had the opportunity to guide the public into developing this new habit of consumption within the beauty market, becoming a reference in the industry.

In 2015, Beauty Date acquired AZ in order to expand its services in the beauty industry. AZ is a company that offers business management solutions for beauty professionals. We then created B2b group, that encompassed both companies.

We then integrated AZ's system with Beauty Date's, as well as both our client bases. The next step was improving AZ's infrastructure and developing a management platform for beauty salons.

From working closely with beauty professionals, we also identified the need for a White Label so that the salons could offer a personalized experience to the customers.

### **The Results**

Our app for booking beauty services is iOS and Android native. The attention to detail and User Experience in the development of the app earned us a fixed feature in the section "Apps that we love" from Apple's App Store for several years since 2016.

Beauty Date expanded from a small 10-people operation to, at one point, employing over 150 people in Brazil. Beauty Date was also selected by two Startup accelerators: Startup Brazil CNPQ in 2014 and 500 Startups in 2016.

Also in 2016, the company received the “App of the Year” award from O2O Brazil that same year. Today, Beauty Date makes over 1 million online bookings and supports over 5,000 beauty salons and over 60,000 professionals.

### Here I answered some questions about myself and my process.

### **How does your design process typically begin?**

Define the Problem or Opportunity, Understand the context and identify the problem that needs solving or the opportunity for improvement. This often involves conducting research, analyzing competitors, gathering user feedback, and analyzing market trends.

### **How do you measure success as a product designer?**

Can be measured in various ways, as it involves a combination of subjective and objective criteria. I used this main metrics: User Satisfaction, Usability and Accessibility, User Engagement, Conversion Rate, Adoption and Retention Rates, Feedback and Iteration, Alignment with Business Goal, Efficiency and Timelines, Innovation and Creativity.

### **Describe a time when you had to make a difficult design decision and how you approached it.**

Starting a new project can be challenging as it is when key short-term and long-term decisions are made. One of the most critical but also risky moments is building its foundation. It is important to have well-ranked priorities, as the path that ensures the most efficiency in the long run is often the most difficult and time-consuming. For instance, at Beauty Date, I advocated for developing a native app right from the start. This was not a standard practice at the time, but it proved to be a vital factor for long-term success. By making this decision early on, we ensured better use of resources, time, and labor.

### **How do you ensure that your product designs are user-friendly?**

This can be subjective, since user-friendliness can vary from user to user. Therefore, it is important to have a wide range of users testing the designs, and to have a user-centered approach to ensure that the design is tailored to the target audience. This is a process of ongoing iteration and reassessment.

### **Explain how you work with engineers, designers, and product managers.**

I act as a bridge between the team and the stakeholders, ensuring the design is aligned with the product strategy. After collaborating with the product manager to better understand the project's goals and requirements, I work with the design team to develop people-centered designs. Being able to understand the stakeholders' expectations, the users' needs, and incorporating the team's feedback are all key aspects of the design process. After developing clear prototypes and defining all details of interaction, I work with the engineers to provide them with the necessary assets and guidance for implementation.

### **How do you balance the needs of the business with the needs of the user in your design work?**

I prioritize user-centered designs as they ultimately drive business success. With that in mind, I test and validate solutions that support the business goals, such as increasing conversion rates and reducing customer churn. I also find important to ensure long-term sustainability through a process of continuous improvement.

### **How do you approach A/B testing and data-driven design?**

Primarily, knowing when to implement A/B testing or data-driven design is key to guarantee a project's flow and long-term performance. Implementing data-driven design too early in the development process can be detrimental and delay progress. Instead, early development stages should prioritize bolder changes to improve architecture and achieve greater breakthroughs. Then, A/B testing and data can be used during later stages of refinement to optimize and improve the design. In addition to being more cost-effective to the business, this approach is also a better use of resources.

### **What is the newest thing you have learned that has improved your design work?**

Since 2020, I've been exploring 3D tools that are designer-friendly, such as Adobe Dimension and Spline. This has given me more control and expanded my options when creating assets for my projects.\
In 2022, I also started exploring Framer, a flexible tool that will enhance my workflow and enable me to make faster and more efficient deliveries. With modular architecture, Framer is accessible to React framework, and is able to both import and export any component created within it.\
I also recently gained access to the Hydrogen framework from Shopify Plus. In addition to upgrading my stack, it also offers APIs that will help me build mobile-first applications in the near future.

### **What research methods do you use to gain consumer insight before designing new products?**

User Journey, Screen Record, Surveys and Questionnaires, Interviews, Competitor Analysis, Data Analytics. Combining a mix of these research methods allows businesses to gather comprehensive insights, enabling informed and customer-centric product design.

### **What are your strongest strengths, and how can you use them to help you succeed as a product designer?**

I strive to fully understand the current scenario, aligning myself with business needs and self-regulating my efforts to maximize productivity. In this dynamic context, I aim to take action and leverage my skills to adapt to the challenges while optimizing for impact versus effort.
