About

I'm a copywriter with full-stack marketing skills and over a decade of experience in making things simple, accessible and more human. Right now I’m a marketing lead at Sketch.

Work Experience

2019 — Now

I joined Sketch as their second marketing hire, working on a complete rewrite of their docs and defining the brand's first tone of voice. Since then I've worked on every product launch and campaign, while helping to grow and shape the marketing team.

2017 — 2019
Bournemouth, UK

I joined Sideshow as their second writing hire. As well as helping to grow the team and define writing as a billable service within the agency, I worked on campaigns for the likes of BT, Visa, and HSBC.

2015 — 2017
Writer, Editor & Content Strategist at Freelance

I specialised in writing, content strategy and campaigns for the higher education sector. My clients included Brunel University London, Kingston University, and Harper Adams University. I also launched and edited new alumni publications for Writtle University College and Arts University Bournemouth.

2013 — 2015

I joined AUB to consult on the launch of their first iPhone app, kscope, which went on to win awards from Computer Arts and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. As web editor, I led on content strategy for AUB's award-winning website redesign.

2011 — 2013
Features Editor at iCreate Magazine

In my two years at iCreate, I progressed from Staff Writer to Features Editor. I produced a third of the magazine’s content each month, planned features, and commissioned freelancer contributions. I also co-wrote the bestselling iCloud for Beginners ebook.

Projects

2019

Along with the creative team at Sideshow, I worked to bring BT’s new final mile logistics proposition to life.

Rather than focus purely on the technical aspects of their smart lockers in strategic final mile location, we wanted to appeal to the emotional urge to keep promises and enabling the people we rely on every day to do this.

I worked on overarching campaign copy and as well as the script and treatment ideas for the campaign video.

2017

I was overjoyed to be asked by Offscreen’s editor, Kai, to contribute to issue 16 by interviewing Opendesk’s Joni Steiner. I’d been a fan of Offscreen for a long time and was especially excited to contribute to this issue, effectively a relaunch of the title.

I interviewed Joni at Opendesk remotely and worked with Kai (again, remotely) to edit and shape the final piece.

2016

I was commissioned by Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) to produce their new alumni magazine — One Piece of Advice.

I held workshops with AUB’s marketing team and designers at Bond & Coyne to develop the magazine’s editorial direction, define the editorial workflow and brief contributing staff.

Working closely with photographer Bill Bradshaw and the designers at Bond & Coyne, I edited contributions from over 15 writers and wrote one of the magazine’s larger features — an interview with legendary architect Sir Peter Cook.

I went on to produce three more issues of One Piece of Advice before moving on to other projects. The magazine is still produced by the university today.

Side Projects

2024

f1team.lol is my tongue-in-cheek response to the 2024 F1 season’s sponsor-heavy team names. I built it in a few hours with a fair bit of assistance ChatGPT and hosted it with GitHub pages.

It somehow ended up getting a mention in Creative Bloq, which was fun considering I haven’t really promoted it.

2018

Episode Party was a podcast about podcasts. It ran for 61 bi-weekly episodes where my co-host Jack, myself and a guest swapped podcast recommendations.

We put the project on ice in 2018, but occasionally find time for a one-off episode. It turns out the coming up with a unique podcast recommendation (and listening to two others) every other week is quite a lot!

2017

A 47-page guide to writing, structuring, designing and presenting great presentations. My goal was to write and this guide during a week between client projects and sell it as an ebook. It’s available to buy now, but if you email me and ask nicely I’ll send you a PDF for free.

Certifications

2011
Preliminary Certificate in Journalism from NCTJ
