In response to a growing demand for authentic, handmade websites (the kind you code yourself), I hosted a small meetup in Folkestone in Summer 2024 and promoted it with a landing page built to be as lightweight as possible.
Getting the site out there was a great opportunity to show the power of small-web design while promoting a community initiative about small-web design. So I built a touchpoint that informed attendees AND embodied the essence of the event itself.
I opted for a clean and simple design built with pure HTML and CSS. It loads fast and weights 159KB, to be precise. An Eventbrite page is a heavyweight by comparison.
In fact, I was also able to escape the constraints of listing on an event platform. Free myself from their rules and bloat. This site worked for everyone, including on slow connections or on a train, and showed what could be done with languages anyone can learn.
