Projects

2024

A documentation site to showcase the photographs from the midi-graph sketch, captured on real-time at Amorphous Body: A Happening during Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival, M+ Museum Hong Kong (31 May 2024).

midi-graph is a pitch-based Processing sketch that is inspired by the MIDI user interface on audio processing softwares. However, instead of a plain rectangle as the MIDI notes, the program will texture the rectangle with images captured from a continuous stream of camera feed. The y-position of each image is determined by the frequency detected from the live DJ set.

2024

The project is a showcase of Panic Library’s studio - a Hong Kong DJ collective consisting of Baby Diwata and Loveless - displayed in 3D using react three fiber.

The “studio” will only be revealed when user successfully “verified” the correct images in the Google reCAPTCHA-inspired UI.

Imagine you had an invisible pen, those with ink that is only visible when shined with a particular light. Similarly, the project provides user an input where they can submit a secret message that would be revealed when user cursor-highlights the prepared paragraph. It is about the intimacy, the playfulness of sending your loved ones a secret message.

🔨 Vue.js

2024

The idea of sending a note that is full of typos; imagine you’re back in middle school, writing a love letter to your crush but you keep erasing your original words just to end up writing a collection of incorrectly-spelled words.

🔨 Next.js, Konva.js, Tailwind CSS

2024

A real-time document editing platform inspired by Google Docs. It aims to create a shared, but 'handicapped' space for digital users, where different user will see different parts of the current document being typed.

User must rely on the output from other users to fully see what they are typing. This is because some characters in the text input are almost invisible, allowing users to only partially read the words clearly. Each user is assigned different invisible character indexes. This feature is designed to encourage users to check one another’s interface in order to complete each word, similar to solving a puzzle.

The omission of some characters is reminiscent of a "lipogram," a piece of writing that deliberately leaves out certain letters. However, in my project, the omitted letters vary depending on the order in which users connect to the web socket and how many users are connected at any given time. For example, if I type “I love you,” the characters will appear in a very light grey shade on my screen, making them barely visible. However, if I open a new tab as a different user, I will see some characters highlighted in blue, specifically the first, third, fifth indexes, and so on. If I switch back to my original tab, the second, fourth, sixth indexes, and so forth, will be highlighted. This design choice encourages the initial user to collaborate with the new user to fully view their document.

When I’m working on this project, I was thinking of how we never got to see the full picture of someone’s thoughts, even when we’re working closely with them, even in a physical space! Our own narrative may play a role in recontextualising the information that we got from other people to be in accordance to our reality.

2023

A showcase for the 3D asset live documentation for a Bad Times Disco party: Call Me at Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong

I have an idea to document a party in 3D form instead of the traditional two-dimension. With this project, I go around the audience with my phone and laptop, pointing my camera at them to capture 2D images that will be processed into 3D point clouds depth map using a Python script. The depth map is then converted to a 3D object with texture on Blender. All process is automated through a self-customized Python script.

🔨 Python, Blender, React Three Fiber, React.js, Supabase

2022

Fashion editorial about a boy and a girl who arranged to meet up at the London Bridge, the narrative is being unfolded in the form of Whatsapp chat. The project is to complement a feature for Inner Magazine (Hong Kong), which comprises of 7 landscape 16x9 image that altogether forms a panoramic picture.

Hong Kong

Each photograph is supplemented with crops from other photographs from the same interview session with each woman. The photograph becomes a documentation that embodies different points of time during the interview. Multiple cropping of Cheng’s hand is rearranged over her face as a hint to our personal conversation that touches on the sensitive topic of the current Philippine's political climate. Raman’s smiles are laid all over her face while she sings Bengali songs, and Flore told me about her migration story and her family awaiting her back in the Philippines.

The exhibition is organized by Kitdo. All sale proceeds to Bethune House to support the female migrant workers in Hong Kong.

2021
The Freedom of Contemporary Photography at USPACE, PIK Avenue
Jakarta, Indonesia

The exhibited work - "Gestation Gestalt" is about gestation or birth is part of a gestalt, a structure that is constructed out of fragments that connect to each other as a holistic union. The photograph signifies menstruation, fertilization, an embryo and a fetus with differentiated organs are parts of one holistic structure called birth.

2020
Berlin

The work exhibited is a postcard that is intended to be split half, where one half is kept by the sender and the other is sent to the receiver. When splitted, the postcard allows a different variation of image if it is joined on the other end of each side. In a way, this postcard encourages physical meeting between sender and receiver to create a new image.

The exhibition is part of the Shared Campus programme.
