About

Over 15 years experience as a product designer in search, social media content, fintech and cloud data startups.

As a principal product designer, I work closely alongside product and engineering in addition to cross-functional collaboration with marketing, business development, senior executives and customers.

With Figma as my primary tool, I lead the design process, beginning with ideation and research, followed by development and testing and finally releasing it live. The design process lives on with A/B testing and customer feedback for continuous and iterative product improvement.

I would love to talk to you about your product and how I can help your company thrive and grow. I live in Redwood City, California (Silicon Valley).

Work Experience

2023 — 2024
Menlo Park, CA

Bluesky provided tools for Snowflake users that managed and optimized database performance and spending, leveraging AI to automate database tuning and ensure efficient, reliable operations.

As its founding designer, I lead design and evolution of user experience in the company’s flagship product, providing deep insights into data management by Snowflake and the resulting (often bloated) costs related to that usage.

2022 — 2023
Pittsburgh, PA

Cloud Data: OtterTune used machine learning to automate database tuning, helping organizations optimize database performance and reduce operational costs by adjusting configurations for better efficiency and reliability.

As Head of Design, I lead the redesign of the user-experience and user-interface of the company’s flagship product optimizing a customer’s Amazon RDS and Aurora database performance on AWS in order to reduce overall spending.

2021 — 2022
New York, NY

A platform that connected fund administrators, general partners, broker-dealers, and limited partners using a private, permissioned blockchain to facilitate the transaction of private and illiquid assets. The platform enhanced shareholder registrar and transfer agency services, and serves to facilitate secondary market liquidity by leveraging and connecting into an ecosystem of sophisticated financial counterparties.

As Head of Design, lead the redesign of the user-experience and user-interface of the company’s flagship product used by a variety of hedge funds and private equity firms in the onboarding of investors into their various funds.

2015 — 2020
Director of Product & Design at Topix
Palo Alto, CA

Topix was a technology company focusing on entertainment such as celebrities, pop culture, the offbeat, health, current events, and more, with monthly traffic of 1.5 billion page views and 25 million unique visitors.

As Director of Design, following a company pivot, lead end-to-end UX design for its new content creation tools and the consumer content it generated (slideshows, quizzes, videos, articles, etc) for mobile web and desktop.

2009 — 2015
Redwood City, CA

Blekko was a search engine that focused on delivering high-quality, spam-free search results by using human curation and specialized search slashtags to filter and organize information more effectively.

As it’s first full-time designer, I lead design and ideation for a search engine focused on providing spam-free search results for multiple categories of results (instead of just 10 blue links) for desktop, mobile web, smartphone and tablet apps. I also led design on a variety of search projects ranging from tablet search, an SEO information tool, external partnership search deals and more.

Side Projects

2020
Calendar Sharing Mobile App at Appearix

Appearix was an open event planner allowing you to find cool things to do and tell the world which ones you are interested in. Discover events, create new ones for others to find and let the world know where you are appearing next. It was meant to be the 'Twitter for Calendars'. While Facebook showed you what you did in the past and Twitter showed what you were doing in the moment, Appearix aimed to show what you were going to do in the future, all in a social media context.

This was a concept project to perhaps move forward with, perhaps looking for seed funding. But as this was during Covid lockdown, that goal was abandoned and we moved on .

2014
UX / UI Designer at ShredFeed

ShredFeed was a side investigative project with the founders of Blekko to create a content collection application and perhaps merge it together into the Blekko app. Blekko's acquisition by IBM ended this project.
