**Context: The Crypto Challenge**

Overflow, a generosity hub, was facing a roadblock. Even though we were helping donors navigate complex assets in the digital world, our crypto donation experience was stalled at a mere 5% completion rate. The process was clunky and involved several steps from logging in, selecting the crypto token, specifying donation amount, to filling out account details. This left us scratching our heads, wondering why this was happening when most of America's wealth is held in non-cash assets like stock, crypto, and real estate.

**The Struggle: Getting to the Root**

Our team, including Franck Xian (Product Manager), Daniel Kuh (UX/UI), Peter Koe, and Matt Dzwonczy (Development) started dissecting the problem. We soon realized that our Typeform-like user interface was causing friction. The numerous "NEXT" clicks and mandatory login were becoming deterrents. We suspected our crypto donors might not want to disclose so much information about themselves.

**Transformation: Creating Crypto 2.0**

Armed with these insights, we embarked on a mission to redesign our donation process. The first step was to take login out of the equation and have donors choose the coin and quantity first. We aimed for a user experience similar to buying coins. We then relocated the login, giving donors the option to use their phone number instead of an email address. Lastly, we decided to cut down on the multiple pages and consolidate information collection.

Our restructured donation process yielded astounding results. The completion time for the donation experience decreased by 55%, and we achieved a 75% end-to-end completion rate. The journey from identifying the problem to finding a solution was a testament to the power of user-focused UI/UX, research, and testing.

**Context: Identifying the Wealth in Non-Cash Assets**

The wealth of most modern donors is held not in cash, but in non-cash assets. At Overflow, we recognized a significant opportunity for nonprofits who typically only accept cash donations. We embarked on a mission to create the industry's first platform for stock donations, a venture aimed at transforming the way donors give.

**Struggle: Tackling the Challenges of Stock Donations**

The task was complex, primarily due to the lack of direct integrations with any brokerage and the varied processes each one employed. Moreover, we had to develop an MVP within two months, to be launched and tested at our nonprofit's fundraising gala. Our target users were attendees aged from their late 20s to late 40s. The main challenge was overcoming the messy, tedious, and daunting nature of current solutions.

**The Team: Role and Responsibilities**

On a nimble team of two, I served as the lead designer guiding research, validation, and the design and prototype development process. Kevin was our lead developer who helped execute designs into production.

**Transformation/Results: The Success Story of Our Stock Donation Platform**

We set out to simplify and guide the donation process every step of the way. We leveraged the Material design framework to develop a responsive web app, introducing a guided form to ease the user journey. Our design elements, such as user "qualification" and celebration confetti at the end, resonated well with users.

After a period of intense design and development, we successfully launched at the gala, and our innovative approach was well-received. This breakthrough served as a powerful case study, instrumental in securing our seed funding round. Since then, the core designs have processed over 700 stock transactions amounting to over $6M, with more than $2M in total funds raised, over half of which came from stock donations.

TruStory set out with a noble cause: fostering productive, open-minded discourse on the internet. **Context: The Generosity Challenge**

At Overflow, we're all about increasing generosity in the world. We realized that people take pride in being angel investors, openly sharing their support for early-stage companies. This inspired us - could we ignite the same pride in charitable giving? This birthed our project, "Ambitions," aimed at creating giving profiles that users would proudly showcase in their social bios.

**The Struggle: Conceiving and Validating Ambitions**

With my responsibilities spanning UI/UX, validation, research, and testing, we set out to bring Ambitions to life. We developed mockups and shared them with our Ideal Donor Profile (IDP) – a group comprising our investors, engineers, and people from our network. While the concept was received positively, a concern arose: could these public profiles attract unwanted attention from solicitors asking for donations?

**The Pivot: Sidetracking Ambitions**

Despite the promising start, the project took a backseat as we shifted our focus towards enhancing our core product, stock donations. But, the question about potential solicitation remained in our minds.

**The Hypotheses: Moving Forward**

While the project was tabled, I hypothesized that solicitation might not be entirely negative. It could lead to users discovering new non-profits and forging new connections. However, we would need to investigate this concern:

1. Confirm if unwanted solicitations are a significant issue.

2. Study how platforms like AngelList handle similar scenarios.

3. Gather insights from AngelList users about their experiences and thoughts on this matter.

**Context: Background and Objectives** Corporate giving is an essential part of philanthropy, contributing a staggering $24.8 billion to charities in 2020 alone. Recently, roles like Corporate Social Responsibility Officer and Head of Environmental Social Governance have emerged, promoting employee engagement in social impact. In response to this growing field, our team aimed to create an all-in-one software to help these leaders track and enhance employee participation.

**Struggle: Challenges and Approach** Our biggest obstacle was the low rate of employee participation and the struggle to act on scattered and ineffective data. Administrators needed a simpler way to understand employee engagement trends and create impactful initiatives. Our team tackled these challenges head-on, focusing on developing an easy-to-use dashboard for administrators. This empowered them to create engagement campaigns aligned with company goals, interpret actionable data, and offer educational opportunities through webinars and email campaigns.

**Transformation: Learnings and Results** The simplicity of our software was well-received, especially the straightforward analytics and the visibility of potential engagement indicators such as workshop attendance. The results were positive: we successfully launched and renewed our contract, resulting in over $90k in stock donations. The average stock donation value per donor rose to $1k, and we observed a remarkable 50% increase in employee participation quarter-over-quarter.

**Context: Project and Team Overview**

In the project titled "Dashboard Analytics," I served as a designer, working closely with a full-stack engineer, Matt Dzwonczy, and our product manager, Franck Xian. Our aim was to refine our product, Overflow, to better meet the needs of our non-profit organization (NPO) customers, who were struggling to see the value we were offering. This struggle was reflected in a 20% churn rate.

**Struggle: Problem and Approach**

Our customers appreciated our product but found it difficult to justify the subscription price. The core challenge was to decrease churn and enhance Overflow’s perceived value. We hypothesized that by improving the ease of tracking and analyzing stock donations on the dashboard, raising awareness about potential donation value, and gamifying the dashboard features, we could achieve these objectives.

We faced constraints such as limited sprints for design, research, and development, and the necessity to use our existing Dashboard product. We also had to consider the workload implications for Design System updates.

**Transformation: Results and Future Steps**

We validated our approach through conversations with our Customer Success and Sales teams and user testing. The prototype of our new dashboard became a compelling selling point, resulting in a closing of additional 27% of clients. Our customers realized the potential of their donor base, confirming the need for a more robust dashboard analytics system.

As we look to the future, we're considering how to tailor the analytics page to different user personas and what additional information needs to be included. This case study shows our team's dedication to understanding user needs and improving our product to deliver tangible results.
