Side Projects
Exploring the connection between generations through the lens of children wearing their parent’s clothing. The subjects become vessels of time as past and present intertwine. This ongoing series delves into the intersection of identity, memory, and family history, highlighting the significance of the things we hold on to and the stories they whisper.
Documenting the things my mother, Ermelinda Maggie Flores, left behind after she passed away 09/03/19, appealing to the deep desire to gather, collect, organize, reflect, and assert some order over a seemingly disordered world. With this ongoing project, I hope to develop a portrait of her through the items she surrounded herself with, a portrait I never captured while she was alive.
An investigation into vernacular photography through found film slides. Forgotten images, remembered in a new context.
An ongoing series that transforms the subject’s bodies into living canvases to display their work. Imbuing the portraits with a palpable weight, I try to convey the significance that art holds in the subjects’ lives, reveal the intricate relationship between the artist and the work, and blur the boundaries between the physical and imagined.
Experience Camps is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing solace, support, and fun to children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or caregiver through a series of one-week grief camps nationwide. I spent a week at their Pennsylvania location, where I witnessed the staff's dedication and the campers' strength. In juxtaposing sorrow and elation, I sought to reveal the nuanced beauty that arises from the journey of healing.
Exhibitions
"The exhibition also holds space for visitors to participate by sharing their thoughts, hopes, and ideas about what it means to be a creative. While global human rights and social justice concerns seem insurmountable, our stories, though personal, often traverse borders and understanding."
