Solstice is an iOS app, independently designed and built by myself, that shows you the amount of daylight today compared to yesterday, along with information about the next and previous solstice.

Zeitgeist is an iOS and Mac app that lets you see the status of your recent Vercel deployments. It updates in (almost) real-time, giving you at-a-glance peace of mind about your web app deployments.

2021

Eventually is an iOS app that shows you significant events coming up in the next week, month, and year. If you’ve ever been caught off guard by an unexpected birthday, or need to remember you’ve got that vacation to look forward to, Eventually is for you.

Today’s design and engineering tools are poorly suited for creating or working within design systems. What would our tools look like if they treated design systems as the building material, rather than an abstract thing we gesture towards?

Writing

Design systems can be an intimidating undertaking: how can we create something that is robust and supports so many different needs? I’m here to tell you that the path you’re on is years long, but well worth it. Broadly speaking, your design system will undergo three phases of life: reflection, anticipation, and influence.

I’ve spoken with a lot of folks recently about a challenge imposed on us by increased remote work: losing time to think. Because of an increased need to communicate and align with peers and teammates—and few, ineffective tools for doing so (video-conferencing meetings and documents)—we find ourselves spending more time communicating than executing and, more critically, thinking about work.

2020

People tend to conflate “accessibility” with “disability”; but designing for accessibility is principally a question of “access”. Framed in this light, the challenges and opportunities of accessible design become more vividly obvious.

2019

Design systems have matured as an subject over the years to the point of buzzwordiness; but what do design systems and design tools enable us to achieve long-term? What relationships do they enable, and what habits do they break? This post is the written transcription of my 2019 Clarity Conference presentation.
