About
I've been a professional designer for over a decade. I'm hooked on being an IC but really enjoy teaching and mentoring when I get the chance. I love cats ^.^
Projects
Teachers Pay Teachers is the largest marketplace for educators (used by 85% of teachers in the US), and is one of the Top 10 marketplaces across all industries.
This was a complete redesign from a 10+ year old page running on PHP to adopt our latest Design System and run on React.

My team and I had the rare opportunity to reimagine the library for Audible audiobooks from the ground up, establishing a completely new information architecture and then built new features and interactions on that framework. It was an end-to-end design project but particularly meaty in the user research. Tons of fun.

Side Projects
Just a silly podcast I made with some friends. If you're actually interested, I recommend searching for the Hans Zimmer episodes. Any of the music topics were pretty good!
From the website:
"This is a hangout podcast, where we (Josh and Rob) have a chat and catch up from San Francisco to New York City. We will try to have a certain theme or topic for each episode, but no promises are made. We aren’t expecting internet fame and we definitely act like it."

Snapogee is a mobile/tablet system for early childhood development
I partnered with a former colleague who was building a private photo sharing app for family groups and close friends. It was focused on creating games and activities for early childhood that utilized family photos as a the main source of media. For example: putting together a jigsaw puzzle and the image is of the grandparents.
I led workshops and product planning sessions with the small team of 4 engineers and 1 brand designer.
I conducted user research, and overhauled the user experience of our iOS prototype with more consistent and friendly visual styles.
**This design is almost 10 years old now**

Speaking
Weekly 1:1 mentorship meetings with employees transitioning to design from another field.
Mentorship chats would often be project-based, and taking learned concepts to the next level.
Seeking feedback early and often, as well as different ways to respond to feedback are common topics that I discuss often. Particularly around the mindset that “you are not your design.”
Successful completion of the course equips professionals with the ability to design thoughtful digital experiences and helps them understand what a career in UX Design looks like.
At BrainStation I was able to lead design courses on a flexible, freelance basis whenever I missed teaching.

While at Amazon, I was invited to teach a semester of "Designing for Usability" alongside an adjunct professor in the Design & Technology MFA program at Parsons.
