I joined Pin Payments shortly after the initial pilot launch in May of 2013.

From 2013 to 2014, I primarily worked on visual design and frontend development for the marketing site, also occasionally designing features added to the merchant dashboard. By 2015 I was responsible for most customer-facing user interface changes, from initial concept, to high fidelity UI design, and frontend implementation.

In late 2015–early 2016, I helped lead a successful redesign of the merchant dashboard, primarily responsible for the UI and UX changes and the frontend implementation. This redesign consolidated view templates so that features could be added simultaneously for merchants using the dashboard on both mobile and desktop, helping to reduce development time and improve feature parity.

In 2017, I helped redesign the marketing site as we began to reposition our offering to small business customers. I was responsible for the visual design and frontend development work to deliver the redesigned, responsive website.

In 2018 I began facilitating design sessions, liaising between support, sales, marketing, and engineering teams to gather requirements and scope new feature work.

Projects

2024

As part of a small, nimble team, we redesigned and rebuilt the Buildkite marketing website—rewritten in Astro, TypeScript, Tailwind, React, and Framer Motion.

2023

Led creative direction, visual design, and frontend implementation for the end of year Buildkite December release, alongside our talented product, platform, and growth teams to dive into insightful platform usage data from 2023, along with packaging, documenting, and promoting a number of new platform features.

Utilising three.js for the hero visual godrays, as well as d3 for svg data visualisation, to celebrate some of the incredible work shipped by customers.

Side Projects

ThirdPlaces is written from the firsthand experiences of myself and co-founder Josh Wells. It is our attempt to highlight transparency and integrity in Perth’s food scene, free from advertising and sponsored posts.

We built ThirdPlaces not as a definitive guide to good food in Perth but as a reflection of our own values toward quality, sustainability, provenance, and traceability.

Josh is responsible for photography and writing, while I am responsible for design, development, and editing.

Volunteering

2015 — 2016
Perth

Mixin was a conference held in Perth for designers, developers, and those around and in-between. We welcomed 7 amazing speakers from around the world.

In addition to general conference organising responsibilities, I handled the front end development of the Mixin website utilising Middleman, a Ruby-based static site generator (and a very popular alternative to Jekyll in 2015).
