I helped Makerspace by designing a new logo and a website as they were looking to inject new life into their organization and reposition their narrative to target new and existing individuals interested in their programs, courses and services.
Project Overview
Collaborating with Makerspace was something I wanted to do for quite some time. I knew the team from other projects and the amazing work they are doing to develop and promote a digital ecosystem in the area of Prizren by interconnecting science and education with the industrial and business sectors, mainly focusing on modern job creation in the various fields of information and communication technology (ICT).
Logo
The Makerspace logo skillfully blends two ideas. The mark draws inspiration from Makerspace's core value of "innovation in motion" and includes the first letter of the organization's name.
Finding a typography that paired well with the mark, without detracting from it, proved to be a challenge. I explored a number of options before settling on the Moderat sans-serif typeface.
Visual Language
While the mark is an instantly recognizable symbol of the organization — the supporting visual language is crucial to fully convey its values. The primary Makerspace typeface is Moderat, a clean and elegant font used consistently across branding, web design, and printed materials. In addition, the primary brand color is orange, symbolizing growth, distinctiveness, and energy.
I also took part in designing some marketing materials that use the same visuals as the new design.
Brand Support
A rebranding is a significant undertaking for an organization. After the identity was finalized and a new website was underway, dozens of other assets were designed, including designs for social media presence.
Sitemap
The Makerspace website has a lot of features and functionalities, to make the website easier to understand I created a sitemap of all the pages and defined a user flow that was easier to understand.
Website
As the Makerspace brand evolved, so did its website. Makerspace needed a website that would not only help communicate its new position but also effectively showcase its programs, courses, and services.
The website was designed with a basic style guide of buttons, colors, typography and layout as I did my best to stay true to Makerspace’s desire for simplicity.
Mobile friendly
There’s no way around it – having a mobile-friendly website is a must. The entire website that’s available on your desktop has been perfectly designed to work on any mobile device.
Results
The project wasn’t finished until Makerspace was completely satisfied. The end result is a great new logo together with a clean and crisp website that speaks with their voice and tells their story.
