A data storytelling experience for The New York Times about a life-altering disease.

Pentagram partner Giorgia Lupi first came down with Covid-19 in March 2020, when the pandemic arrived in New York; three and a half years and two subsequent infections later, she is still dealing with daily symptoms that may range from fatigue, nausea and dizziness to severe headaches and nerve pain that make it difficult to function.

This is a visual essay of her journey for The New York Times, that uses data visualization to convey the overwhelming experience of Long Covid.

Documist brings together cinema and journalism to create original documentaries with a humanist spirit.

We drew inspiration from travel and cartography to re-envision Documist’s visual identity, implementing vivid colors and a flexible, grid-based layout reflective of the maps frequently employed in their storytelling. We also created a bespoke logotype, meant to convey Documist’s commitment to craft, quality, and attention to detail.

Across five decades, less-lethal tools like rubber bullets, bean-bag rounds, pepper balls and tear gas canisters have injured, disfigured, and killed people.

Don’t look away; the victims have a powerful case against less-lethal munitions.

The story of Querdenken shows how thousands of Germans protesting public health measures are also rejecting proven science, disputing settled history, shattering societal norms, and, ultimately, questioning everything.
