About
Aida is a visual storyteller and multidisciplinary artist with focus on analogue photography and film making. As a former refugee who was born in Kosovo, Aida is interested in stories of displacement, grief and sense of belonging. Their work aims to blur the lines between documentary and fiction and to juxtapose her subjects material reality with their emotional world.
Projects
Currently in post production: An experimental short film shot in brutal Sicilian climate. Deeply inspired by Bergmann's visual language of using contrasts to convey duality in his characters, so too does this visual poem deal with a woman's grief and reconnection to herself. Influenced by the philosophy of Muriel Alboulrouss, founder of the Beirut based Intuitive Film Lab.
In February 2024 I had the honour of attending a Masterclass in Experimental and Personal Film Making by the avant-garde experimental filmmaker extraordinaire, Rouzbeh Rashidi, in Berlin. This was the defining part of my career that help shape my voice as a visual artist, and culminated in an intense period of crafting my 3-minute contribution to our collaborative film Exquisite Corpse. Shot entirely on my MacBook Pro webcam and Iphone, and edited on the same day, I was able to convey a raw physical embodiment of film.
This short from documentary is an exploration of a refugee's struggle to find themselves at home in the place they ended up, while also having lost the home they started out with.
Side Projects
An investigative story about the children stuck in deportation camps.
Broadly dives into sexism in Denmark.
Exhibitions
This photoseries is a exploration of the feelings around what 'home' means to different people. The pair decided on a travel in New York to document their time, living with family friends in Bay Ridge.
''For the first time ever the Copenhagen-based photographer Aida Berisha, will be showing us her beautiful photos. Her first photo-series is titled ‘Let’s Talk About Stuff That Matters’. The photo-series takes us through a trip into old traditional Danish sceneries to start a conversation with her subject.
The series is entirely shot on analogue black and white film, and will be curated and styled by Elio Escoffery.''
Writing
A personal piece exploring motherhood and the rich heritage that my own mothers cooking carries.
Work Experience
Started my own company in 2018 and have been freelancing as a creative since. Although this had been primarily as a photographer, I have been building my film portfolio and worked in almost every role behind the camera, including as; hair & make up artist, costumier, production design, assistant director, editing supervisor, and director.
During the pandemic I founded Kin Collective with Jamila Versi - a film collective with the aim of sharing resources and knowledge of the film world with members of the QTBIPOC community in Denmark.
Over the years I've collaborated with Back to Future Sounds on many occasion, and during this particular period was interning as an Art Director for the agency. This involved building their visual identity, producing content for their social media platforms and art direction of all graphics including events.
Besides officially being an office manager my times at VICE was filled with experimentation. Here I had the freedom to follow my creative passions and learn more about photography, film production and writing.
Volunteering
In 2020 the Danish government began the process of revoking permanent residencies for hundreds of Syrian refugee's in an attempt to send them back to war torn Damascus. In collaboration with multiple NGO's and grassroots organisations the family members started organising a 2 month long sit-in protest in front of the Danish parliament. I joined the big team of volunteers during the protest, and continued organising with the core team after the protest ended, to raise awareness and to give a voice to the people now stuck in deportation camps around the country.
